It was our 17th consecutive year at the Cajun and Bluegrass Festival at Stepping Stone Ranch in Escoheag, where we enjoyed the foot-stompin’ music of Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys, D.L. Menard, Northern Lights, Gilian Welch and David Rawlings, and Geno Delafose.

The Narragansett Bay Chorus hosted “A Galaxy of Stars,” featuring the best barbershop groups in the world, at the Providence Performing Arts Center.

Slim Man, the great jazz guitarist, wowed the crowd at the Greenwich Odeum. So did the Austin Lounge Lizards, Herbie Mann and Bruce Dunlap.

“Late Night Catechism” was held over at Theatre-by-the-Sea.

The Muir String Quartet was in their fourth season at Rhode Island College. They are still going strong 20 years later.

Tony Kushner’s “Angels in America, Part II” was given a terrific production at Trinity Rep, directed by Oskar Eustis, with a set by Eugene Lee. Jennifer Mudge Tucker and Brian McEleney starred, along with Timothy Crowe, Fred Sullivan Jr., Phyllis Kay, Janice Duclos, Anne Scurria and Ed Shea.

Rhode Island’s own Michael Corrente directed David Mamet’s “American Buffalo,” filmed in Pawtucket and starring Dustin Hoffman and Dennis Franz.

Goldie Hawn, Diane Keaton and Bette Midler starred in “The First Wives Club.”

The Rhode Island Philharmonic opened its 52nd season under the direction of a new conductor, Larry Rachleff, who gave Rhode Island 20 great years of classical concerts.

“Smokey Joe’s Café” was at PPAC.

Remember “Tomato Vine” in Warwick’s Apex Plaza? They had dinner for two every Monday night for $20.95.
