The Avon drew big audiences for Kenneth Branagh’s version of Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing,” which also starred his wife, Emma Thompson.

Sylvester Stallone played a mountain climber in “Cliffhanger.” Meanwhile, Arnold Schwarzenneger starred as the “Last Action Hero.” He just may well be.

Ted Danson and Whoopi Goldberg played a romantic couple in “Made in America.” Bob Hoskins and John Leguizamo were the title characters in the awful “Super Mario Brothers.”

Michael J. Fox played a former child TV star in “Life With Mikey.”

“Jurassic Park” was the hit of the summer.

Trinity Rep held a benefit for its soon-to-be-neighbors, AS220, with Spalding Gray and Avner the Eccentric performing.

Neil Simon’s “The Odd Couple” opened the season at Theatre-by-the-Sea.

Downtown Providence hosted The American Bar-B-Q.

The Community Players presented “See How They Run,” starring Brian Mulvey of Warwick and Karen Gail Kessler, who is now PR person for Warwick’s Ocean State Theatre Company.

Warwick Musical Theatre opened its 39th season with the music of Chicago, followed by country singer Merle Haggard. Victor Borge gave another sold-out performance. Tammy Wynette replaced Conway Twitty after his sudden death.

Vittorio’s restaurant in Cranston had swordfish francese for $9.95 and baked stuffed shrimp for $8.95.
