It appears that there is a growing epidemic in this country and around the world regarding hatred and violence. Referring to the shooting in Dallas, the massacre in Nice, France, and the recent violence in Baton Rouge, La., or the killing of innocent people, men, women, and children, in the hands of violence and hatred. Where does it end? It seems like every week there is unnecessary violence in our country or in some other part of the world. There should be a stricter law on guns.

This recent assault on police officers is unspeakable. Police officers who take an oath to protect and serve their communities put their lives on the line every day, only to get killed by some deranged individual.

Something has to be done regarding stricter gun laws. Somehow individuals with mental health issues fall through the cracks and are able to acquire an assault weapon and go on a random killing spree, killing innocent people. This has got to stop. Life is too precious, and all life matters.

Its indeed a horrific state of affairs and speaks loudly of values and lack there of. I agree gun control needs to more strict and more accountable in every way. However I don't believe that doing so will solve more than a few problems...but every little bit helps.

The desire so many have to kill Im afraid probably wont be going away with radical religious extremists for a while. . Just yesterday in Normandy France an 84 yr old priest was murdered with a knife by a person that "police knew" and some reports say the murderer had ankle bracelet on from law enforcement. It is said the man was heavily influenced by Islamic extremism.

I don't think anyone knows where this will all end but if we could figure a way, to mind our own business as individuals and as a nation, that might be a good start.

Here we go with blaming the Guns again!

Did the ISLAMIST in Normandy have a GUN? 1 priest dead.

Did the ISLAMIST in Niece have a Gun? He killed 84 people with a truck.

Did the ISLAMISTS in BOSTON have a Gun? They Killed 13 people and Wounded 260 others with a pressure cooker bomb.

What is the common feature here?

You want to close the barn door now that the horse is gone.

If you ban all guns RIGHT NOW? Are you really that stupid to think Terrorists are going to turn theirs in? How about the Hood Rats and the Gangbangers? Maybe the Mafia? The robbers? The rapists? I know, The Columbian Drug Cartels? How about The Bloods? The Crips? The Latin Kings? The Aryan Brotherhood? Neo Nazis? White Supremacists? The Black Panthers?

The Klu Klux Klan? No, the problem is much deeper! Look at Ireland! How many years were they killing and bombing over there? There is only a temporary truce that still could be shattered at any moment. The problem is HATRED, GREED, and FEAR. These we've had since long before you or I was born and will still be here long after any of us are DEAD. The only difference is we can kill a lot more people a lot faster and more efficiently. Guns or no Guns.

How do you propose to identify those with mental illness? They don't always present as such. It's hard even for family members to grasp mental status changes. Banning 'assault weapons' is an easy play but stupid as there are far more effective methods to kill people as demonstrated in NICE.

Mr. Shorr: While I appreciate your sentiment, you're missing a larger (and rather glaring) point. Islamist extremists want to kill you and your family in any manner possible. Would you endorse 'sensible truck control' as a result of the carnage in Nice? How about 'sensible knife control' via the Catholic priest who was beheaded in Normandy. There are savages in this world who, lacking access to guns, will use knives, clubs, bricks, trucks, or whatever is available to kill you unless and until these individuals are identified as.....savages. The problem is not guns but rather Islamist extremists, many of whom are being openly welcomed into our country under the guise of "compassion". Enough is enough!

Simmer down Skipper, the pressure cookers used in the Marathon bombing killed 3 people, not 13.
