It is now more than ever that we see the very real effects of climate change.

As many people know, our continued pollution of the environment has led to a slew of crises, many of which have impacted us politically, socially, and economically. The recent “apocalypse” of snow we have received speaks for itself. Our waste and toxic trash is causing climate change at an exponential rate, and we are totally ignoring it. It is only in a country like America that people take as fact what a groundhog says the weather will be over what scientists say as fact. I know that there are many causes of this, but by far the biggest and, in my opinion, the most easily fixable is human ignorance. For the people who think “global warming” is a myth because how cold the weather has been, they I think they are the worst offenders. Yes, the summers are getting hotter, but the winters are also getting colder because of “climate change,” not just “global warming.” Even if we think that one soda can not recycled can’t possibly make that big of a difference, we’ve missed the point: it’s that mindset that is killing our planet. As long as we stay in the dark, draw the shades, and post romanticized forest pictures on our Pintrest walls, we’re just letting companies like BP and Koch continue to feed sludge into our forests and lakes. The recent news stories about China and their smog is every indication of that. Here’s an eye-opener; marathon runners in China wear surgical masks to prevent the increased intake of polluted air. By the time that race is over, the masks are black. Scientists say that breathing the air in Beijing for one day is the equivalent of smoking three packs of cigarettes. Imagine that for a second; now think of all the women, children and elderly who work, live and breath in that air. The time for action is now, because it will be too late by the time everyone gets around to it. It’s not hard to make a difference: recycle that can, don’t throw that wrapper out of your car, and turn lights off when you leave the room. We need to be more environmentally conscious before it’s too late. Changing our collective mindsets now can be an investment in not only our future, but in the countless generations ahead of us.

It is an enormous stretch to say that recycling a can, etc will change the climate and then making that into a law to cripple our economy, but that is exactly what the Climate Changers do with their silly windmills off the coast which will generate power at 3 times the cost of competitive power while the RI economy stagnates. When the love of nature supercedes the love of God, than we have made an idol of nature and will pay the price.
