An open letter to the Rhode Island Congressional delegation:
We lost four Marines today. Why?
Why is it the policy of this Administration, even with the current threat level, that US Military are forbidden be armed on bases.
This “gun-free zone” type policy can be traced back to Department of Defense (DoD) Directive 5210.56, signed into effect in February 1992 by Donald J. Atwood, Deputy Secretary of Defense under President George H.W. Bush.
Some outlets are citing Army Regulation 190-14, a policy implemented in 1993 that changed policy regarding carrying firearms on the Army’s military bases, to cast blame on Clinton. But that is just partisan politics in my opinion.
That said, in the Clinton and Bush instances, that was PRE 9/11!
However, DoD Directive 5210.56 was reissued in April 2011 by Deputy Secretary of Defense William J. Lynn III.
Why hasn’t it been changed given the shootings at the Washington Navy Yard and Fort Hood?
Perhaps it’s time to ask yourself, since you profess to care about our troops, why do we still have this idiotic policy?
REQUIESCAT IN PACE MARINES... SEMPER FI!
