Titans break out against Vets

After tying Pilgrim 1-1 the week before, the Toll Gate girls’ soccer team got its offensive juggernaut back in gear last week with a pair of lopsided victories. The Titans beat Tiverton 6-0 on Wednesday, then topped rival Warwick Vets 9-2 on Friday afternoon. Hannah McNulty led the way in both games, maintaining her place as the state’s leading scorer with four goals against the Tigers and five against the ’Canes, while adding two assists in each game. Grace McGrath and Libby Costello added a goal apiece in the win over Tiverton. Against Vets, Marisa Giard had a hat trick with three goals while McGrath had a goal and an assist.

Vets was coming off a 4-4 tie with East Providence on Wednesday but couldn’t keep up with the Titans and dropped to 0-10-2.

Vets will be back in action Wednesday at Tiverton then will host Tiverton two days later, on Friday. Toll Gate travels to East Providence on Tuesday before another showdown with Pilgrim on Thursday, which could decide first place in D-II-Central. The Patriots currently have a two-point edge on the Titans for first. Thursday’s game is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. at City Park. (Warwick Beacon photos by William Geoghegan)
