The Fair Mansion on Fair Street in Pawtuxet was alive with activity like it hasn’t been for years Thursday evening as friends of the House of Hope toured the building and imagined its transformation into affordable housing units. The historical character of the house built in 1820 will be preserved. With more than $2 million in grants, the house will be converted into five efficiency units, and an adjoining building with another five units will be built. Work is expected to start early next year. More than 120 guests got to see rooms adopted and decorated by various sponsors. Outside heaters pumped warm air into the building. And as there was no water service, porta-johns met needs. The house was full of life as it moves closer to its new chapter. (Warwick Beacon photos)
