Hendricken rising sophomore Joseph Tucker reached the semifinals of the 93rd Rhode Island Junior Amateur Championship last week, setting the pace for players with Warwick ties.

Tucker, who plays out of Warwick’s Potowomut Golf Club, shot a 5-over par 75 in qualifying at Metacomet Country Club, putting him tied for third heading into the match play portion of the event.

In match play, third-seeded Tucker defeated Wannamoisett’s Jeffrey Giguere 6 and 4 in the Round of 16, then beat Wanumetonomy’s Jesse Boog 1-up in the quarterfinals.

Tucker’s run finally came to an end in the semifinals, where he lost to eventual champion Patrick Welch, who plays out of Metacomet. Welch defeated Wanumetonomy’s Will Hall 7 and 5 in the championship round.

Warwick’s James Burke Jr. also qualified thanks to a 10-over par 80. He lost in the Round of 16, 5 and 3 to La Salle standout Matt Corio.

Elliot Barber and Ryan Malloy, who both play out of Potowomut, qualified as well with scores of 77 and 79, respectively, but they were both eliminated in the Round of 16.
