Turner leading Hawks’ offense

The number of games remaining in the collegiate softball career of Toll Gate graduate Pattie Turner can now be counted on one hand, but the former Titan standout is trying her best to make sure she finishes her time on the diamond in a blaze of glory.

Turner is one of just 14 players on the Saint Anselm roster this spring and prior to the season was entrusted with the captaincy, having carried over the “C” on her jersey from the previous campaign.

With an undermanned squad, Turner has been expected to pick up much of the slack this season, and she has delivered for the Hawks by leading the team in several offensive categories.

To that end, she is currently leading the Saint Anselm nine in runs batted in (23), slugging percentage (.631) and runs scored (23), while her eight home runs is good for a four-way tie for second in the Northeast-10.

Turner’s power was on full display this past weekend as she socked a pair of homers, going deep in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader versus Bentley, then doing so again the following afternoon against St. Michael’s.

In both games, the Hawks were able to trigger the mercy rule, defeating the Falcons 8-0 in six innings before routing the Purple Knights 14-0 in five frames.

Four games remain in the season for Saint Anselm, and while it can theoretically finish in a four-way tie for fourth place in the Northeast-10 Conference’s Northeast Division, the Hawks would lose out in most tiebreaker situations and are for all intents and purposes eliminated from contention.

Despite knowing that their season will come to an end this weekend, the Saint Anselm nine will be looking to finish the campaign on a roll, as they face Southern New Hampshire on Tuesday before hitting the road to take on Assumption in a three-game set starting on Friday.

Krajewski earns

conference-wide

recognition

Hendricken alum Jarek Krajewski’s 2016 season has been a very productive one at the plate, and the former Hawk, now a member of the Plymouth State baseball team, has finally earned conference-wide recognition for his exploits.

On Monday, the Little East Conference tabbed Krajewski as its player of the week, the end result of a seven-day period in which the junior first baseman went 5-for-14 with a pair of home runs and four runs driven in.

Both homers came in the second game of Saturday’s twinbill versus Eastern Connecticut, a contest that Krajewski finished with two out in the bottom of the ninth with a solo, walk-off blast that landed beyond the right field fence to give the Panthers a 2-1 triumph.

For the season, Krajewski is hitting at a .448 clip, which places him third among qualifying batters in the LEC, while pacing the Plymouth State nine in runs scored (24), runs batted in (24) and slugging percentage (.656).
