Two Warwick credit unions award scholarships to RI students

Posted

The Credit Unions of Rhode Island, through the Cooperative Credit Union Association, Inc., (CCUA), recently awarded eight scholarships to students either entering or returning to college in September 2016.

Greenwood Credit Union and Wave Federal Credit Union, both of Warwick, sponsored scholarships for Danielle Dottor and Marina Ann Carro, respectively.

The credit unions narrowed down their fields of applicants from among hundreds and sent the top three to CCUA. The recipients were selected from among 31 applications that were submitted by 11 credit unions throughout Rhode Island.

Applications were evaluated on a variety of criteria, including the student’s academic performance, extracurricular activities and the quality and content of an essay that addressed the applicant’s intended major field of study and career goals.

“The quality of the applications impressed the panel of credit union executives who made up the selection committee,” said CCUA President Paul Gentile. “In addition to impressive academic records, the students demonstrated a dedicated commitment to the community through their volunteer work.”

The Cooperative Credit Union Association, headquartered in Marlborough, Mass., promotes the interests of more than 180-member credit unions located throughout the states of Rhode Island, Massachusetts and New Hampshire. The Association is an advocate for its members before Congress and state legislatures, regulatory bodies and the public. For more information, visit CCUAssociation.org.
