U. S. Civil War lecture series starts Sept. 23 at library

Dr. Stanley Carpenter, professor of strategy and policy at the U.S. Naval War College, will present a lecture series on the Civil War Tuesdays at 7 p.m. at the Warwick Public Library.

The four-part series will cover events from the attack on Fort Sumter in 1861 to the surrender of General Robert E. Lee in 1865.

On Sept. 23, Carpenter will speak on “1861: A House Divided,” followed by “1862: The Grand Design” on Sept. 30. “1863: This Hallowed Ground” is the topic on Oct. 7 and the following week the topic is “1864-65: War is Hell.”

Dr. Stanley Carpenter is a retired United States naval officer and an expert on British military and naval history.
