To the Editor:

Today I read a letter in the Beacon from written by Democratic mayoral candidate Richard Corrente. He stated that since he filed to run for mayor of Warwick, his new property assessment has increased three times the previous value, while Mayor Avedisian’s has gone down. This is no doubt true, and not a coincidence nor acceptable.

The problem I have with his article, as an independent taxpayer of Warwick, is that he forgot to mention all the other Warwick politicians’ assessments that went down. Could it be because most of them are all fellow Democrats? Just a few examples to make my point, which were taken from the Warwick assessors database. I might add that this is why they can give 10 percent raises, over three years, to all Warwick unions last year. They won’t have to pay for it, just us unconnected taxpayers.

I might add that you, the Warwick Beacon, not me, should be exposing this information. 

Lincoln Chafee, 22 Beachwood Dr., $727,600 to $683,600

    Lets not forget that Joe Shekarchi's 4 properties went down a total of $110,600. By the way, the houses on either side of Dave Picozzi's house went up in value $37,500. But no, there's no favoritism here, just coincidence.

    Wow...reading that gets my blood boiling. So, I went onto the city's database. I guess if your trying to get people fired up only tell part of the story. I see Mr Noel's empty lot you list went down in value but his house lot went up $89,000. Mr Pisaturo''s 4 other properties went up. The mayors empty lot went up. Mr Solomon has 7 other properties. 5 of them went up. Picozzi's neighbors, 1 went up and 1 went down. if you did honest research. ..some went up, some went down.

    They do honest research, they just choose which parts serve their interests. Then share just those parts because they know most people take it at face value and will not do their own research because they can't be bothered to fact check or just don't have the time. People like that are what is wrong with this City.

    So lets all be accurate. 15 houses on Picozzi's street. 7 properties showed an increase in tax base totaling $140,000.

    8 properties showed a decrease in tax base of $50,400. The houses on either side of his house went up $37,500 and $20,400. His went down $5100. The net gain in the neighborhood was $90,000 in tax base.

    Compare that now with the Winslow neighborhood which has been decimated by construction and loss of homes. Virtually every property showed a tax base increase on average of $13,000. If for any reason you don't think that the tax base can be manipulated in favor of certain people, I got some swampland to sell you.

    The neighborhood across from the Library. Neighborhood is 57 years old, mostly seniors, very few homes have been updated. Every house went up over $12,000.
