It is time for residents of Warwick to warm up their wind pipes. On Sundays this summer, Greenwood Presbyterian Church will hold a community choir. The program is sponsored by the church and serves as an opportunity for newcomer singers to join a welcoming environment with people who have participated in choral programs for many years. No church affiliation is required and no experience is necessary. The program encourages all ages and is free of charge.
The Greenwood Presbyterian chorus currently has about 25 members.
“It fluctuates from week to week because you don’t have to be committed,” said the church’s Director of Music John Black. “It’s a good thing because every week we have a unique sound.”
Black has directed a similar program with success at Barrington Presbyterian Church in the past. The hymns to be performed will be familiar and “all sacred,” recognizable even by those who may not regularly attend service.
Anyone interested is invited to the music room on the second floor of the church on Sundays July 5 through Aug. 23 at 8:50 a.m. for a 20-minute rehearsal. Presentation to the congregation will be at 9:30.
