(Six tales of revenge)
Like many short story anthologies, “Wild Tales” had a few good ones and a few not so good. They all revolve around the emotion of revenge, and some of them get pretty gruesome.
The first is told before the credits and takes coincidence to a new level as all of the passengers on a plane have something in common. With the recent, bizarre plane crash still fresh in our thoughts, this one becomes a bit eerie.
The next one takes place in a greasy spoon diner, where the waitress recognizes a lone customer who has wronged her and her family. Her cook helps her take her bloody revenge.
The third tale is the bloodiest one, centering around road rage and the bloody battle between two drivers.
Next is the tale of a mild-mannered engineer who is forced into rage and revenge when his car is towed and he gets no satisfaction from the DMV. The poor guy gets it from all angles until he finally cracks and gets his own revenge.
The movie ends with a hit and run case and the efforts of a family to “fix it,” followed by the most bizarre wedding you will ever witness.
Most of this is tongue-in-cheek, very dark humor, which seemed to be enjoyed by some Avon audience members and not by others. We were somewhere in the middle, surprised that the trailers had given away a couple of endings and disappointed that some of the stories weren’t as clever as they could have been.
Rated R, with violence, profanity and sex. In Spanish with English sub-titles.
