Walk partially closed

So as to remind people that the section of the Rocky Point shoreline walk near the Shore Dinner Hall will be closed for an undisclosed period during demolition of the building, Mayor Scott Avedisian visited the park Thursday followed by a contingent of news reporters. He said his office would provide weekly updates on the Department of Environmental Management’s cleanup of the former park grounds, which is expected to be completed this fall. That work includes the removal of debris, leveling of the Palladium, Windjammer and Shore Dinner Hall and grading of the site. But while the fence went up last week, it had been pushed down by Sunday [as pictured in this photo taken by Mick Anderson]. Under a second phase of the park cleanup, the cottages of Rocky Beach will be removed later this summer. The total cost of the park cleanup is about $3 million. “I’m asking people to remain patient,” said Avedisian, who pointed out with city acquisition of the 41 shore acres plus state purchase of 82 acres, a “spectacular” resource for Rhode Islanders has been saved.
