SHOOTING AT WARWICK MALL

On May 22 at 12:57 p.m., the Warwick Police Department received a call via 911 reporting that a male subject was shooting at another subject(s) inside of a vehicle located in the parking lot of the Warwick Mall. The vehicle and suspect immediately left the scene prior to the arrival of responding police officers. A handgun and several shell casings were located at the scene. A complete security sweep of the mall and surrounding area was conducted by members of the Warwick Mall Security Office in conjunction with the Warwick Police Department.

The investigation continues and anyone with additional information should contact the Warwick Police Department Detective Division at 468-4200.

SHOPLIFTING & WARRANT

On May 7 at 7:13 p.m., Officer Quentin Tavares was dispatched to Wal-Mart at 650 Bald Hill Road for the report of a shoplifter.

Upon arrival, Tavares spoke with a loss prevention agent, who advised that she observed a man, later identified as Joshua Thibodeau, 25, of 1365 Plainfield Street, Johnston, enter the electronics department and select a WiFi camera. He then entered the auto department, where he removed the spider wrap from the packaging and concealed the merchandise in his hoodie. He then exited the store, passing all points of purchase and made no attempt to pay for the concealed merchandise. Thibodeau was approached by loss prevention outside the store and escorted back inside without incident. The merchandise, valued at $69.97, was recovered and the store wished to press charges.

While conducting checks on Thibodeau, Tavares said it was determined he currently had a warrant for larceny under $1,500 out of the Coventry Police Department. Upon being contacted, Coventry Police advised they wished to obtain custody of Thibodeau, who was taken into custody and transported to Warwick Police headquarters, where he was fingerprinted, photographed, charged with one count of shoplifting misdemeanor and issued a summons for Third District Court. Thibodeau was later turned over to Coventry Police for the warrant, which was removed from RILETS.

DUI & REFUSAL

On May 12 at 1:42 a.m., Officer Christopher Cote was traveling southbound on Warwick Avenue when he observed a vehicle traveling northbound that was driving on the double yellow lines, almost crossing into the other travel lane. Cote turned around and conducted a motor vehicle stop in the vicinity of 2000 Warwick Ave.

Upon approach to the vehicle, Cote made contact with the operator, who was identified as Brandon Mack, 25, of 286 South Main Street, Hopedale, Mass. There was also a male passenger in the vehicle. Mack was able to provide his license and registration. Cote said when he asked Mack where he was coming from; he wouldn’t look at or speak to him, just stared straight ahead. Cote said the passenger told him they had come from a friend’s house, but he said he didn’t know where because his friend had recently moved to the area and was staying with his girlfriend. When asked where they were headed, Mack again would not answer or look at Cote. The passenger began to answer, but Cote asked Mack if he would mind looking at him and speaking to him, to which Mack said they were heading toward Johnston. When asked if he still lived in Hopedale, Mass., Mack said he did but he was headed to Johnston.

While speaking with Mack, Cote said Mack’s eyes were bloodshot and he detected the odor associated with the consumption of alcoholic beverages coming from his breath. When asked if he had any drinks, Mack said, “Not really.” When asked to clarify, Mack said he had nothing to drink. At that time he was asked to submit to a series of standardized field sobriety tests, which he agreed to do.

During the tests, Cote said he observed multiple clues that indicated impairment and took Mack into custody for suspicion of DUI. Mack was transported to Warwick Police headquarters, where he refused to submit to a chemical breath test. He was later fingerprinted and photographed. Mack was given violations for DUI drugs/alcohol first offense BAC unknown, refusal to submit to a chemical test first offense, and for laned roadway violations, with a Rhode Island Traffic Court date. Mack was then secured in a cell and held until he appeared in court later that morning.

Officer Fontaine, who arrived on scene to assist Officer Cote, remained on scene until the passenger could find a ride home and the vehicle was towed.

Although the item doesn't state WHERE in the parking lot the shooting took place, my money is on the area outside the Food Court or outside the Showcase where the ill-behaved "children" congregate. This behavior is typical of the entitled, spoiled, ignorant individuals who have no regard for innocent bystanders while fighting their petty squabbles.

I'd also take the bet that the parties involved do not reside in Warwick but are part of the "imported" crime statistics we enjoy because of these cretins.

If these wizards were aware of how many high-rez cameras monitor their activities in and outside the mall, they may think twice about doing something so irresponsible, selfish and stupid.
