LARCENY

A resident of Bakers Creek Road who found a credit card in his yard led to a police report of a larceny from a motor vehicle.

On August 12, Officer Tammy Mello spoke with the resident and reporting party who stated he found a credit card on his front lawn that belonged to a neighbor. Finding the discovery odd, he contacted the cardholder to let her know about the card. At that point, the neighbor noticed that items were missing from her vehicle.

The reporting party did not think anything of it, went for a motorcycle ride, and upon returning noticed that his wallet was missing from a truck parked at his residence. Described as a black leather wallet containing various credit cards, his driver’s license and possibly his birth certificate And Social Security card.

Officer Mello advised the victim to contact the three major credit reporting bureaus to have his account flagged. At this time there are no suspects or witnesses.

MOTORCYCLE STOLEN

On August 15, Detective Jeffrey Viveiros was dispatched to Draper Avenue for a report of a stolen motorcycle.

Upon arrival, the detective met with the reporting party who stated that his 2005 Harley Davidson was stolen sometime overnight. He mentioned that he left Renegade’s bar and arrived home sometime around 1:30 a.m. and parked the motorcycle in front of his residence. After waking around 7:30 a.m., he found the motorcycle gone. He advised the detective that he still had the vehicle’s keys, that he has insurance and does not owe any money on the motorcycle.

A check of the area’s security cameras provided no additional information. No suspects or witnesses.

SHOPLIFTING CHARGE

Officer Ali Jaafar responded to Sears department store on August 18 for a report of a suspected shoplifter in custody. Upon arrival, he was informed by the store’s loss prevention team that the suspect, identified as Steven Collins, of 23 Princeton Avenue, Warwick, had been detained for shoplifting over $876 in merchandise.

According to the report, Collins concealed infants’ clothing and attempted to leave the store without making any attempt to pay for the items. He could be seen on the store’s security footage, which was also obtained by the officer as evidence.

Officer Jaafar was notified by dispatch that Collins had two outstanding bench warrants out of Third District Court and that he had three previous shoplifting convictions.

Collins was charged with habitual offender shoplifting and shoplifting felony. He was taken to department headquarters, where he was booked and processed. At the time of the report, Collins was waiting to meet with the bail commissioner and was deemed to be a bail violator.

OUTSTANDING WARRANT

A pedestrian safety check led to the arrest of a driver for an outstanding warrant.

On August 19, Sergeant John Kelly and members of the Warwick Police Traffic Unit were working a crosswalk zone in the area of Narragansett Parkway and East View Road to check on pedestrian safety from vehicles not yielding to persons in a crosswalk.

The driver of a 2007 beige Volvo did not yield for an officer using the crosswalk. The vehicle slowed and went around the policeman then continued driving. Sergeant Kelly then initiated a traffic stop.

The operator of the vehicle was identified as Amanda Robinson, of  63 Sterling Avenue, Apt. 202, East Providence. Checks on Robinson showed that her license was suspended and that she had an active district court capias for failure to appear. Robinson was taken into custody without incident, and her vehicle was turned over to another licensed operator at her request.

After being transported to police headquarters, she was fingerprinted, photographed and held for the next session of Third District Court.
