Members of the Warwick Police SWAT Team are competing for the fifth straight year in the Connecticut Law Enforcement SWAT Challenge from Aug. 20 to 22. This year, 32 teams from around the New England area will be competing.

Day 1 events consist of a pistol competition, a rifle competition, and the “Top Cop” Challenge. The “Top Cop” challenge events the officer must be successful in include handgun, rifle, as well as physical fitness. Day 2 events consist of team competition. There are four separate courses of fire, which challenge the team’s ability to shoot, navigate obstacles, and work as a unit to solve each mission. Day 3 events consist of a “live” fire challenge followed by a grueling Physical Training course. Teams must navigate through six miles of a wooded area and are challenged along the way by 25 to 30 physical fitness obstacles.

In the 2012 competition, the Warwick Police Department team placed 4th and 7th place overall and took 1st place in the PT challenge. In the individual category, Officer Dale Drowne came in 2nd out of over 40 competitors.
