Two local students are among those participating in Defense industry internships through SENEDIA, The Southeastern New England Defense Industry Alliance, Real Jobs RI Partnership Grant from the RI Department of Labor and Training. The paid internships for undergraduate and graduate-level students from Rhode Island colleges and universities focus on experiential learning in information technology and cybersecurity or undersea technology and engineering. James Perry, Cranston, a student at Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI), is interning at McLaughlin Research Corporation. James Carroll, Warwick, a student at CCRI, interned at Rite Solutions. SENEDIA provided a $1,500 stipend to each intern.

“SENEDIA’s internship program prepares Rhode Island students to working the defense industry,” said Molly Magee, Executive Director of SENEDIA. “Through SENEDIA’s Real Jobs RI grant, we are meeting the defense industry’s demand for employees for their high-tech, high paying jobs. The defense sector is the highest wage sector in the Rhode Island economy.”

The IT/cybersecurity and undersea technology/engineering internships each have five available slots for the spring 2017 semester. Students must be a second year CCRI student or fourth year/graduate student at a Rhode Island university or college. Students must also be a U.S. citizen and able to work a minimum of eight hours per week for 10 weeks.

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis until slots are filled. Students should send their résumés to Townley Knudson at tknudson@senedia.org. For more information visit www.senedia.org/ri-cybersecurity-internshipwork-experience-program.
