When Jesus walked the beach

Warwick Central Baptist Church carried on the tradition of Easter sunrise services started by the Shawomet Baptist Church in 1923 at Warwick Light on Warwick Neck. In contrast to years past when worshipers braved wind, rain and even snow, this Easter provided a beautiful day.

PREPARING FOR REENACTMENT: Jesus played by Bill Moulton, at far right, goes over his script as those who played disciples ready nets at the fishing boat.

UPLIFTING: Debbie Puckett, Marcia Beagan and the bell choir of Sandy Ashe, Stepfani Capuano and Danielle DeRosa provided music for the Easter celebration.

JOINING IN: Those in attendance joined in the worship in song and prayer.

A DISCIPLE’S JOB: Matthew Miller, who played one of the disciples, handed out programs at the beginning of the service.

As they have done for decades, The First Congregational Church of Warwick and St. Rita’s Church jointly sponsored an Easter sunrise service on the shores of Oakland Beach featuring a reenactment of Jesus revealing himself to the disciples by the Sea of Tiberias. In keeping with tradition, fish sticks and bread were shared with those who had turned out for the beautiful morning.
