Thousands of lives have been lost in Afghanistan and Iraq. The trillions of dollars spent there could have helped the people here who are in desperate need. Yes, we are appalled by the use o chemical weapons in Syria, but why should we, as the only nation to use weapons of mass destruction in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, become judge, jury and prosecutor in Syria?

When will we ever learn?

Using nukes on Hiroshima and Nagasaki was the right thing to do. Particularly if you were one of the soldiers about to be landed on mainland Japan to fight them on their home soil. Killing is killing, whether it is done by hundreds of bombs or one.

Kind of a simple statement regarding Hiroshima and Nagasaki. I agree with davebarry109, the alternatives to use would have been far more destructive and the lives lost significantly higher. Take a look at the historical record of the estimated loss of life if ground forces had to be used on the Japan mainland. I had a uncle who was a POW in Tokyo at the time the bombs were dropped. He was Liberated soon after. Not so, if the war continued.
