The Pilgrim boys' basketball team entered last week without a single win to its name. But the Pats put an end to that - and then some.
Playing Ponaganset on Tuesday and Scituate on Friday, Pilgrim came away with victories in both games, improving its Division II record to 2-9.
In fact, the two wins weren't just Pilgrim's first two league wins, but they were the team's first wins against any competition.
Pilgrim had played five non-league games to go with the nine league contests, and fallen in each of them.
The Pats got their first win with a 38-34 victory over the Chieftans on Tuesday. Ryan Morris led the offense in that game with 18 points, while Brendan Rix added nine and Luis Pimental scored six.
Then, just three days later, Pilgrim knocked off the Spartans 50-40.
Charles Johnson led the offense that night, pouring in 18 points, including four three-pointers. Rix also hit double-figures with 10 points, and Morris scored eight.
Pilgrim still has seven games remaining on its schedule, and it should have the opportunity to pick up a few more wins before the season ends. It takes on 5-6 Narragansett today in a winnable match-up.
Following that, the Pats still have 5-6 Tiverton and 3-8 Chariho to play, along with a few of the top teams in D-II.
