You can’t beat local talent

It was a festive evening as the Woodbury Union Church in Conimicut hosted its annual outdoor concert and free dinner Sunday. Joining the church singers was the Bayside Beat, which is made up of members of the Conimicut Village Association. The Bayside Beat that association member John Uhoch helped formed meets Mondays at the church to rehearse. So far, Bayside Beat has split funds its been paid for performances between the village association and the church food pantry. On Sunday the tempo was lively, especially in the closing numbers where the two groups joined to play some rock and roll favorites. Here, Gary Christiansen, above, belts out “Mustang Sally.” At right is CVA President Ginny Barham, also a Bayside Beat vocalist. While the two groups won’t be performing, this Saturday offers another opportunity for the community to come together at the association’s Picnic at the Point from noon to 5 p.m. There will be craft and food vendors and, once gain, live music…and the beat.
