The Rhode Island Philharmonic Youth Orchestras (RIPYO) presents their first concert of the season on Sunday, November 15 at 3 p.m. at The VETS in Providence. The concert features the top-level Symphony Orchestra conducted by Music Director Alexey Shabalin, Repertory Orchestra under the direction of Vincent Mattera, and String Orchestra under the direction of Irina Naryshkova. Tickets are $11 adult, $6 student and senior citizen, and are available at the door on the day of the performance.
RIPYO provides quality orchestral rehearsal and performance experience for talented young musicians from Rhode Island and nearby Connecticut and Massachusetts. Students range in age from elementary school through high school. Also, RIPYO performs on stage with the Rhode Island Philharmonic Orchestra in their annual Side-by-Side concert on Friday, November 13 at 6:30 p.m. at The VETS as part of the evening’s Amica Rush Hour program. The concert, conducted by Music Director Larry Rachleff, features the top-level RIPYO Symphony Orchestra, led by Youth Orchestra Director and Philharmonic Orchestra violinist Alexey Shabalin, performing Berlioz’s “Hungarian March” from the Damnation of Faust. Also on the evening’s program are Leonard Bernstein’s West Side Story: Symphonic Dances and DEBUSSY’S La Mer.
