In the last week, eighteen 80-foot girders were welded into place as the replacement bridge deck for Route 95 northbound over Toll Gate Road started coming together. Before it is ready to be moved into place – a job that will require removing the existing bridge – it will require concrete work, decking and other work. Simultaneously, replacements for the Centerville Road overpasses are under construction. According to the Department of Transportation, the $25.3 million project involves the replacement of six bridge decks (two for Toll Gate and four for Centerville Road), with the northbound decks scheduled for a late fall completion. Southbound decks would be replaced next year. RIDOT expects a series of weekend road closures for Toll Gate Road and lane shifts on I-95. On each weekend, a bridge piece will be demolished and the new bridge deck will be positioned into place. When work takes place on Centerville Road, traffic will be reduced from four lanes to two and shifted to the side of the bridge that isn’t being worked on that weekend. (Warwick Beacon photo)
