National Night Out has become an Oakland Beach tradition, an occasion for community groups to spread awareness and, in many cases, provide some great entertainment. Once again, the event held Tuesday evening ended with a bang, as fireworks showered above hundreds of spectators.
But there is more to National Night Out than the show, music and free food served up by community representatives, including Rob Farrell, chair of the Warwick Democratic Committee chairman, and his loyal volunteers. It’s also an educational and, in the case of several people, a very profitable experience.
People watched as Warwick firefighters using the Jaws of Life demonstrated how they would extricate someone from a crushed vehicle at an accident scene; people had the opportunity to experience what a firefighter could encounter in the department’s smoke trailer; and members of the police K-9 demonstrated how their canine companions can sniff out drugs or bring down an assailant. And then community organizations such as the Friends of Warwick Ponds, Join Our Neighborhood and Help (JONAH) and Mentor Rhode Island manned tables where they distributed information about their work and tips such as preparing for hurricanes and floods.
As for it being a profitable evening, Kevin Elliott of the unclaimed property division of the Rhode Island Office of the General Treasurer readily searched state files to see whether visitors were entitled to receive any unclaimed property. Elliott reported Wednesday one person was entitled to $4,000 and another to more than $30,000.
Now, that’s quite a night out.

Events like this one are the reason Warwick is so great. Many congrats to Councilperson Donna Travis for donating hundreds of more hours of her and her husband Bills time. Just one more reason there should be a statue of her and Bill at the entrance. No one has done nearly as much for the betterment of Oakland Beach.

You're wrong. To my knowledge Donna Travis endorsed Scott Avedisian in the 2016 election and now endorses the endorsed Democrat, Joe Solomon. That has NOTHING to do with her extensive list of accomplishments and my admiration for her and her husbands contributions. Please go to "Travis owns up to campaign finance "bookkeeping error". and read my comment listing her decades of unselfish kindness, giving to the Oakland Beach Community. It covers 45 years as a child abuse advocate, 40 years assisting the elderly through JONAH, 30 years planning Easter egg hunts, 20+ years organizing national Night Out, 40 years organizing the Fourth of July event, 30+ years of Holiday/Christmas baskets, 20 years as a Warwick Lion (charter member), 20 years as a Citizen Police person, 30 years working with VOWS, and a ton more.
My comment was purely as a fan. I have known Donna for many years and I don't know if she voted for me last time or if she will vote for me this time. It doesn't change my admiration. Not one bit.
She still deserves a statue. Don't you agree?

Well, Cat, I have to credit you with succeeding in getting the make-believe mayor to again prove his abject lack of restraint.

That's pretty funny [not "ha-ha" funny] coming from the candidate who has repeatedly lied about basic information like how the FY18 budget was passed.
His fawning praise of Donna Travis also ignores the contributions of the many people who made National Night Out a success. I am sure Mrs. Travis would be the first person to credit others and thank them for their work [unlike the make-believe mayor], much in the same way she admitted to violating campaign finance laws while the make-believe mayor will not own up to the many lies he has repeated on this website.
And while her contributions are laudable, I am certain that Mrs. Travis does not want a statue and is instead content to witness the success of National Night Out, thanks to the volunteers who support it. In the case of this event, she is showing how to be a leader -- and as is typical for him, the make-believe mayor is too busy making a disgrace of himself to actually learn that lesson.

Rick Corrente often mentions the "political insiders" in Warwick, even referring to me as one. Just like his campaign plans Rick Corrente is short on specifics. If he's so against waste and fraud why not call these "insiders" out? He believes statues should be built of Donna Travis and her husband. Donna has been great for Oakland Beach, but that is not the only area she represents. I also notice Rick excuses her campaign finance errors and tax delinquency...I wonder why Rick Corrente would excuse tax delinquency? Perhaps because he can relate? Obviously Rick doesn't believe Donna Travis is a "political insider". He has praised Camille Vella Wilkinson who also has never endorsed him or said a positive word about him. Its not Camille he's referring to. Why is it Rick can never name these "political insiders"? The truth is because it is a strawman argument created by a failed candidate so desperate to make excuses for the overwhelming loss he knows thats coming.
Rick has continually lied about his delinquent property tax payments, his delinquent car tax payments, his delinquent water/sewer bills ane his foreclosure on an office condo in East Greenwich. The last thing Warwick needs is a candidate who can't figure out how to pay their own bills at home, but even worse than that, that same candidate has no courage to tell voters the truth about his reckless finances. Had Rick Corrente told voters the truth in 2016 perhaps this still wouldn't be such a prominent issue in his campaign. By ignoring the issue, or by making blatantly false denials, Rick Corrente has shown what type of Mayor he will be. A Mayor who will bankrupt this city within a decade of implementing the "Corrente Plan". The fortunate thing for voters is they'll never have to experience the "Corrente plan" as this tax delinquent will be shown the proverbial door for the SECOND TIME in 4 years. Then he will carry a special distinction being defeated by 2 different candidates for the same position in back to back elections. Serious candidates don't have $34 in their bank account like Correntes campaign does. Campaigns with REAL support have more than $34 in their bank account. When you have $34 in your campaign account its not just the "political insiders" that think you are a terrible candidate Rick. It's everyone. Primary season can't come soon enough.

Thanks for the kind words and no, I don't consider Donna Travis or Camille Vella-Wilkinson political insiders. Considering what these two ladies have unselfishly done for the good of Warwick they should be considered anything but political insiders. Are they perfect? No! (Just ask their husbands. I have.) Have they committed unforgivable acts (like parking in the wrong location!) Yes. But in the grand scheme of things they have both donated hundreds of hours of their time and energy for the common good. Have you? I have, but only about one-one-hundredth of what they have done.
And, by the way Scal, you never answered MY question. If ANY of your lies about me were true (and they're NOT) how on Gods green earth could I hold a mortgage bankers license? The Feds and the State check my credit and credentials every single year and I need to maintain an almost flawless credit score to handle millions of dollars of other peoples money, credit reports, social security numbers, etc. And how come the City of Warwick, Scott Avedisian and Joe Solomon and ANY of the tax collectors over the last twenty years, haven't taken me to task or mentioned ANYTHING in the Warwick Beacon. Wouldn't that be BIG NEWS? The truth of the matter Scal, is that I have never been foreclosed on, bankrupt, unregistered car (not for three years. Not for three minutes!) or any other crap that you and Cote have thrown against the wall. I tried to explain that to you a few dozen times but you conveniently keep forgetting to force me to do it again and again, so I stopped trying. I especially got a kick out of the false claim that I didn't pay my water and utility bills. How would I have them today if I didn't. In my 2015/2016 campaign I was given a list of over a thousand people who owed over a thousand dollars EACH on their water bills (the total was almost four-and-a-half million dollars) but Scal, my name wasn't on that list. Shouldn't it have been? Was yours? Tell me what it is and I'll look it up for you. Is that why you're so afraid to come out of the shadows and face me like a man? Or a woman? Or an adult? This is the Corrente bait and switch. Notice how now that its been proven through documentation that Rick Corrente has been a tax delinquent, he now says "how would I hold a mortgage license?" His excuse used to be "how would I register my car if my taxes were late?" The truth is he couldn't, which is why he finally paid them. Everything is a word game with Corrente because he thinks voters are as stupid as he is. Let me ask voters something if a person is willing to hide their car from the tax rolls to avoid paying car taxes, don't you believe they'd hide any infractions possible from the feds to avoid losing their mortgage license? Rick, is this why the taxes at 177 Grand View were paid by 4 different people in 4 years? So you could take the taxes out of your name avoiding responsibility of the delinquent taxes?
Your car taxes were late from '09-'12. I've posted the dates on here MULTIPLE TIMES. Every time I do print them in this comment section you run and hide under another article like the lying coward and fraud that you are. In 2012 you couldn't register your car, which is why you finally paid up on your car taxes. '13-'15 were the 3 years it disappeared. If it didn't disappear from the tax rolls Rick, why can't you tell me what town it was registered in, and what town the taxes were paid in? Simple question. In 2016 when your car was back on the Warwick tax rolls your 2016 car taxes were late. I'm sensing a pattern here. You ask Rick how could you hold a mortgage license if you had all these infractions, this is EXACTLY what I'd like to know. There is too much smoke (property tax delinquency, car tax delinquency, late water/sewer bills, litigation losses) for their not to be fire. You make smug comments about how you "handle millions" congratulations on that Rick, because voters so far have trusted you with a grand total of $34 in your campaign bank account. It was insured with Butler and messier. I have both in my office. I keep asking you to see for yourself but you keep chickening out. One thing though. The timeline has never changed. The only thing thats changed is the lies you use to try and defend yourself. At one point you tried spinning this as "you're right Scal at one time I owed one penny". Which was total garbage and nothing but spin to cover for other depinquent car tax payments. Now you are actually claiming not only did you make all of your tax payments each year, but that they were on time. Why is it Rick I can cite the dates the bills were due along with the dates you paid the bills late? How could the city come up with such a date showing you paid your car taxes late, if in fact, you never paid late, not even one time? '09-'11 you were late paying until 2012 when you couldn't register your car, that is when you caught up on your payments. Spare me your pathetic denials. The information is public Rick, WHY DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND THAT?
Also I notice you aren't touching the 177 Grand View questions. You listed the property as your residence last time you ran for mayor yet the taxes have been paid by 4 different people over 4 years none of which are Rick Corrente. Again Rick, THIS IS PUBLIC INFORMATION! I don't need to look at papers you have. Why would your paperwork differ from that of the city? More spin and propaganda from The Tax Delinquents Mayor.
Lastly, I and many other commenters have shared links and other sources with readers. What proof has Rick Corrente offered readers other than "come by my office". Why? So Rick Corrente can solicit campaign donations from readers to try and pad his whopping $34 in the bank. No thank you! Ricks campaign finances are another topic he dodges. He wants voters to believe only "political insiders" reject Rick Corrente and support Joe Solomon. This couldn't be further from the truth. Rick Corrente has $34 in the bank. How about his tax assessments going up by only $4,400 in the last 2 years when EVERY OTHER HOUSE ON CRAWFORD WENT UP FROM $21,700 TO AS MUCH AS $61,000? How about his car dealership tax assessed at $168,000, LESS than he paid for it 29 years ago!! How about his other house at 54 Hess going DOWN in tax assessed value by $39,700. And what about his "residence" at 180 Shawomet? In the last 2 years, the tax assessed value went down by $25,700, while neighbors went up by that much and more!
Joe just hit Warwick taxpayers the biggest tax increase allowed by law! Scal! How come you aren't complaining about that AT ALL? How come Scal? He took hundreds of political action committee (PAC) checks. I accepted NONE. You KNOW what strings are attached to a PAC check Scal. Don't you? How come you don't complain about that? Instead you complained in the last election that I legally "loaned" my campaign "over $40,000" and now you complain that I only have under $100 in my campaign fund. My money is clean Scal. No strings attached, and even though Cote keeps stealing my signs, I still have hundreds left over from the last election.
Why don't you go after the guy who is doing what Joe is doing? Unless you really ARE a Joe Solomon henchman. Are you Scal1024? And thanks for saying that I can attack you all I want. The "whataboutism" alone should tell voters once again what a fraud Rick Corrente is. He ignores all claims against his property taxes that were paid by 4 different parties. I've posted the due dates, followed by the dates paid on his car taxes MULTIPLE TIMES. I'm not doing it every time Rick Corrente claims it is "a lie". Notice the "New Corrente Plan" has now turned to smearing Joe Solomon. More evidence of an unraveling, fraudulent Corrente campaign with little to no support ($34 in the bank) from the erratic, wind bag, Tax Delinquents Mayor. Just for the record (and I've never claimed to be a fan) Warwick Watch posted the same exact information on Rick Correntes delinquent car taxes. Why does that matter? Rick Corrente supported Stacia Petri (Huyler) in the 2014 Republican Primary. Stacia runs Warwick Watch. Rick can call me and Rob liars I'm not offended. However, why would Stacia lie after you supported her Rick? Its not just Rob Cote with this information. Multiple parties shared this information.
When Rick Corrente brings up multiple lies to smear Joe Solomon it shows how desperate he has become. He claims I am a "henchman" for Joe Solomon, he claimed the same thing for Mayor Avedisian. I've never even stated I support Joe Solomon other than saying he is by far the most qualified candidate in the Democratic Primary. Rick Corrente always quotes one of the Galucci brothers saying (paraphrasing) "tell voters why they should be for you, not against your opponent". My how the times have changed. Rick Corrente has shown zero integrity since he declared himself a candidate for Mayor. He has shown no limit to how far he'll go to embarrass himself and these latest smears of Joe Solomon, an almost 2 decades long public servant are another absolutley disgraceful example. I have posted quotes from Rick Corrente as soon as 1 year ago praising Joe Solomon. Rick never had a bad word to say until Solomon became Mayor. Rick Corrente will say, do and lie about anything to get elected. Luckily voters aren't fooled by this hack. Um, RC, public record shows you didn't pay taxes your car for the years in question. So if you insist you did pay taxes then it wasn't in the city of Warwick. If you did, it would show up with the rest of the years listed. You can solve this issue in a very simple manner. Go to the tax assessors office with your proof and have them correct the online PUBLIC RECORDS. Then it won't be an issue. That you haven't sends a very clear message. Either the towns records are wrong or you are wrong. If it were me and I was running for office, I would clear it up immediately. But that's just me.
I stand by my statement. I am not wrong. You only comment like that on posts that you think will provide traction for your campaign.

Well I really was trying to stay out of this but now that the mentally challenged fake mayor, Mayor Dumbness, has invoked my name with a disparaging false comment that actually opens him up to a civil suit, I must respond. As to the claim that "Cote stole over 40 of my signs" , I'll say it again. I removed 9 of your signs from traffic signal boxes across the city. Sandy lane, Airport Rd., West Shore Rd. and did so in accordance with state law. You then made several false police reports and wasted the taxpayers money on an investigation that resulted in nothing. In particular, I photographed each location, before and after, sent these photos to the press, which were in an article by the Warwick Post, and gave that info to the police.
In addition, as I publicly stated to you on this site, and to the police, that any sign that I see that you place on public property will be removed and fired into the nearest dumpster. That threat seams to have worked because i don't see any more signs on public property. However, as to the number of lost signs, which is no doubt another fabrication, there are numerous people that have such disdain for you that they would climb to the top of the Newport bridge to remove one of your signs.
What is most interesting is that you still do not understand the concept of a public figure vs a private citizen and how you can be sued civilly for comments that you make against private citizens, whether on a web site, a blog, or in public. Please don't force me to humiliate you once again, as I actually enjoy that stuff. Having humiliated 2 lawyers in civil suits as Pro-se, I would readily enter into a lawsuit against you simply for entertainment purposes and bury you with paperwork as I did to your mentor and dirt bag Vella Wilkinson.
So please don't temp me Mayor Dumbness, as I do not make idle threats. By the way Mayor Dumbness, every comment that you make on this site is subject to discovery.

In another desperate and pathetic attempt to distract from his disgrace of a campaign, the make-believe mayor simply throws out information that he thinks will make another candidate look bad -- and instead is again proven a liar.
For example, his claim that "every other" property on Crawford Avenue went up in assessment is a lie.

None of this other claims are worth the time it would take to disprove them; what is instructional here is the level of delusion that the make-believe mayor has reached.

No one knows anything else about him except that he is a tax delinquent who has built his candidacy on outright lies.
His current behavior is nothing more than an 11th-hour desperate attempt to change the inevitable and humiliating loss he is about to suffer on Sept. 12 -- and once again, it will fail.

PLEASE go on the Warwick Tax Assessors web site and look up 6 Crawford as I used that address in my example. I showed that EVERY house on Crawford went up in assessed value over the last two years (2015 - 2017) an average of $38,080. (5 other houses plus Joe's). That statement was 100% true. I said that 6 Crawford went up $21,700 over the last two years (2015 - 2017). That statement was 100% true. PLEASE double check my findings! I compared all of the houses on Crawford to Joe Solomon's house at 21 Crawford and I printed them just in case. That's where he has lived for many years even though he "claims" to live at 180 Shawomet . That way he can represent Ward 4 even though he actually lives in Ward 5. You will notice that CrickeeRaven has no problem with this highly unethical decision on Solomons part. CrickeeRaven deceitfully used a different timeframe to con the reader into believing I misquoted. I used 2015 to 2017 to compare the values of ALL the houses on Crawford. My findings? EVERY other house on the street went UP IN ASSESED VALUE BY a minimum of $21,700 to a maximum of $61,100! Every other house except, of course Joe Solomons. HIS ONLY WENT UP $4,400 AND IT'S ON NARRAGANSETT BAY!!! I also commented that he owns a car dealership at 1129 West Shore Rd. That commercial building ONLY ASSESSES FOR $168,900, LESS THAN HE PAID FOR IT 29 years ago!!!!! Today he is selling it for more than three times the tax assessed value. There's more! He also owns 54 Hess. That assessed value went DOWN from 2015 - 2017 by $39,700. And what about that house at 180 Shawomet? That property also, somehow, went DOWN in assessed value from 2015 to 2017 by a whopping $25,700 and it is ON NARRAGANSETT BAY!! Maybe this is all one gigantic coincidence. Maybe, but A LOT of people don't think so!
For the record, I also compared every other City Council member and found their homes to be EXACTLY in line with their neighbors. Just not Joe Solomon.
For the record, I called Vision Technologies and learned that they will be doing a new assessment of the entire city in December 2018. Steve told me that they would be happy to deliver their findings to a neutral third party such as The Warwick Beacon who could then transfer the information to Warwick City Hall with the pressing of a button. That way there would be total transparency of the true values. No one could tamper with the assessments before the tax bills went out. No one could pull the kind of Dirty Tricks people like me are accusing certain politicians of doing. (In the 2016 election I noted that Avedisians house went DOWN in assessed value by the same amount as my house went UP.) This is exactly the kind of Dirty Tricks Politics that has plagued Warwick for about 20 years. It's time for that crap to come to an end and my idea won't cost the taxpayers a dime.
Speaking of the taxpayers "dime" I was given a list of over a thousand people in Warwick that owe OVER A THOUSAND DOLLARS EACH on their water bills. When Joe Solomon brings them a "Solomon Mayor" sign they can't refuse to display it. As Mayor, I will make sure these political insiders will receive a bill. When they finally pay their fair share, the rest of us will pay LESS! That's not the way it is today, but it will be after the election.
Lastly, I don't mind constructive criticism, in fact I welcome it, but what CrickeeRaven is spewing is "destructive criticism". It benefits no one. It's full of "facts" that are impossible to be true and it only attacks me, not my opponent. How can anyone believe that this anonymous critic isn't a henchman for Joe Solomon? Dirty Tricks politics.

"What’s the story on Corrente’s property assessments?
Corrente’s property in Potowomut is .14 acres of undeveloped land, assessed this year at $8,700. It had been previously assessed at $3,700, which Corrente claims in his Beacon letter to the editor to be “triple.”
Math proves that false: $3,700 times 3 is $11,100, while $8,700 is 2.35 times more than $3,700, so he’s off by 65%.
Corrente also mentions another property he owns at 1115 Greenwich Ave. [not his residence] that is now listed as a five-family instead of the previous four-family designation, and again alleges shady dealings by Avedisian.
What Corrente doesn’t mention is that the assessment on that property went down — from $280,400 to $275,400, essentially washing out the increase on his other property.
The subtotal so far is no net property tax increase for Richard Corrente, as he had one property go up $5,000 and the other go down $5,000 in value.
Also, as pointed out by astute internet commenter CrickeeRaven on the Beacon’s comment board here, Corrente doesn’t actually own the property he calls home — that property, at 177 Grand View Drive, is currently owned by Red Stick Acquisitions of Baton Rouge, La."

Thank you again, Cat, for presenting the actual facts and not the delusional version of events that the make-believe mayor has invented.
He accuses others of using "deceitful" methods when he, himself, is manipulating facts by counting the last two years' assessments that show fairly typical shifts in the real estate market.
That's the only way he can twist information to fit his conclusion -- which, I am sure you will agree, is a highly deceitful method of presenting information.
As for his other accusations about Solomon living at one address while claiming to live in another, they should be taken with as much credibility as anything else he says: Zero. He has no proof, no documentation, no evidence for any of it. Claiming that others have "no problem" with an unproven story is further evidence of how much of a disgrace his candidacy is.
Even with all of those obvious defects in his statements, the make-believe mayor can't restrain himself from humiliating himself even further and claiming -- again, with no evidence at all -- that people with overdue water bills are putting up Solomon's campaign signs because... Honestly, his comment is so illogical I can't figure it out.
Just as he has been for nearly four years now, the make-believe mayor is absolutely intent on embarrassing himself as much as possible and smearing public servants with baseless accusations.
He is a disgrace of a candidate, a one-time loser who is about to lose yet again.
He deserves nothing but the continued efforts of you and other commenters to expose him for the tax delinquent, lying fraud of a candidate that he is, right up until we and thousands of our honest, taxpaying, neighbors overwhelmingly reject his candidacy again.
