Gasoline prices in Rhode Island are down five cents this week, according to AAA Northeast.

AAA’s August 13 survey of prices in Rhode Island finds self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.66 per gallon. Rhode Island’s price is two cents higher than the national average for regular unleaded of $2.64. A year ago at this time, the average price in Rhode Island was twenty-two cents higher at $2.88.

“Domestic gasoline supplies soared to the highest level not seen in nearly five months, leading to price drops across much of the country,” said Diana Imondi, AAA Northeast Manager of Public Affairs & Traffic Safety. “While demand is also up, it’s not enough to stay on pace with the huge jump in gasoline stocks.”

The range in prices in the latest AAA survey for unleaded regular is 34 cents, from a low of $2.49 to a high of $2.83.
