Active Troop 1 engaged in community
To the Editor:
October 2012 was a productive month, as Troop 1 Warwick was happy to recognize the following scouts for making the rank of Tenderfoot: Wade Duarte, Allen Killilea, Nathan LaRochelle, Justin Madeira, Dylan Massey, Kyle Pincins and John Snell.
Nov. 7, 2012 was Troop 1 Warwick’s Fall Bazaar and they would like to thank everyone, scouting families included, who helped make the event a success. We know that local businesses are the cornerstones of our community and we would like to thank the following companies for their contributions: Starbucks on Airport Road, Gregg’s of North Kingstown and Davis School of Martial Arts.
It was a more Merry Christmas for those in need, as Eagle Scout and now adult leader Austin Irons coordinated efforts with Troop 1 Warwick to provide toys and gifts for those less fortunate, via the Gregg’s giving tree. The following scouts participated in the gift giving: Ryker Carlson, Kyle Farrar, Nathan LaRochelle, Mathew Woods, Devin Brown, Dylan Massey, Allen Killilea and Wade Duarte.
On Jan. 5, six scouts participated in Merit Badge College, which was held at Rhode Island College. Seven merit badges were earned, along with four partials. The scouts had a great time learning about aviation, computers, geology, veterinary medicine, woodworking, electricity, personal management and citizenship in the nation. The scouts would like to thank all of the instructors who took time out of their schedules to teach their classes.
To recognize scouts who have made recent achievements, Troop 1 held a Court of Honor on Jan. 28 at Heritage Christian Fellowship Church. Seven merit badges and three rank advancements were presented. Congratulations to Josh Greenwood for earning the rank of Star and to Mathew Woods and Kyle Farrar for earning the rank of Life.
For the second year, Troop 1 was happy to participate in Washington Trust’s annual peanut butter drive to benefit the RI Food Bank, which was held during the month of March. The troop was able to donate more than 10 pounds of peanut butter.
If your son would like to join Scouting, he only needs to be 11 years old or have completed the 5th grade. Troop 1 Warwick is always accepting new Scouts. For further information, contact Scoutmaster Andy La-Rochelle at 473-4603.
