ADA issues, voting rights topics for free lunch & learn workshops

The Ocean State Center for Independent Living will host a free Lunch & Learn Workshops at both OSCIL locations in Warwick and Pawtucket in July.

This month’s presenters are Jason Flanders, Investigator of the RI Commission on Human Rights and Kate Bowden, staff attorney from the RI Disability Law Center.

Flanders will discuss the most recent news regarding the ADA and will answer your questions. Bowden will discuss the RIDLC’s Voting Rights Hotline, voting rights for people with disabilities and voting procedures. She will also explain the right to assistance, the right to an accessible polling place, the right to assistive technology at the polls and voting by mail or from a hospital or nursing home.

The Warwick OSCIL workshop will be held Wednesday, July 25, 12-2 p.m. at 1944 Warwick Ave, Warwick. The Pawtucket workshop is Thursday, July 26, 12-2 p.m. at 175 Main Street in Pawtucket. 

As part of OSCIL’s mission to provide outreach, education and opportunities for peer support, OSCIL offers these free Lunch and Learn workshops highlighting various solutions that can increase access in your home and community.

Advance registration is required; call 738-1013 if you plan to attend either session. Seating is Limited. Lunch (pizza) will be served. A sign language interpreter and CART have been secured for these events.

United Way’s 211 Outreach RV will be at our Warwick location to answer questions about other resources available in Rhode Island.
