Albert F. Gofton

Albert F. Gofton, age 98, formerly of Warwick, died on Monday, June 26, 2017, at Steere House in Providence. He was the husband of the late Ruth E. (Sutherland) Gofton, and the late Helen (Baker) Hawksley.

Born in Providence, a son of the late Frederick C. and Elizabeth (Worthington) Gofton, he was raised in East Providence, lived in Warwick from 1950 to 1988, and in Port St. Lucie, FL from 1988 to 2009, when he returned to Warwick. A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was a recipient of the Bronze Star. Mr. Gofton was employed as a milkman by A.B. Munroe Dairy in East Providence for over 40 years, retiring in 1984. An avid outdoorsman, he loved to play golf and canoe on Rhode Island rivers. He was a former member of Haven Methodist Church in East Providence.

He is survived by a daughter, Marcia E. Jones of Warwick; a son, Scott F. Gofton and his wife Beverly, of Narragansett; a daughter-in-law, Margaret Malcolm of Warwick, six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was the father of the late Jeffrey A. Gofton, and the brother of the late Francis Gofton and Edward Gofton.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday, July 2, from 3-6 p.m. in the Barrett & Cotter Funeral Home, 1328 Warwick Avenue, Spring Green, Warwick. Burial with military honors will be on Monday, July 3, at 9 a.m. in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. (Please gather just inside the cemetery entrance at 8:45 a.m.)
