Aloke K. Das, 78, of Warwick died Sunday, April 14, at Kent Hospital.

Born in Calcutta, India, a son of the late Jitendra and Bijoli Das, he had been a Warwick resident for the past 40 years.

Mr. Das was a quality control engineer for Cherry Semi-Conductor and North Safety equipment before retiring. He passed his matriculation exam from Uttarpara Government High School, obtaining third place in West Bengal in 1956. He passed Intermediate Science from Presidency College Under Calcutta University in 1958.

Continuing his education, Mr. Das graduated first in his class in Metallurgical Engineering Bengal Engineering College Shibpur in 1962. After emigrating to the United States, he obtained a master’s degree from Brown University in 1965.

Mr. Das enjoyed sports and cultural activities. He was an avid fan of tennis and enjoyed Bengali and English literature. He also enjoyed Bengali cuisine and sweets.

He leaves a son, William J. Das of Warwick; a brother, Arun Das of England; and three sisters, Mandira Banerjee, Chhabi Roy and Indira Ballav, all of India.

He was the former husband of Deborah L. (Durham) Das.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 20, at 3:30 p.m. in the Frank P. Trainor & Sons Funeral Home, 982 Warwick Ave., Warwick. Calling hours will be from 1:30-3:30 p.m. prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory to the R.I. SPCA, 180 Amaral St., East Providence, RI 02915, will be appreciated.
