After takeoff from Green Airport at about 12:45 p.m. Wednesday, American Airlines flight 5396 returned when it struck a small flock of horned larks, Bill Fisher, spokesman for the Rhode Island Airport Corporation, said.
Fisher said the flight was bound for Regan National Airport and the decision to return to Green was “a precaution.” As of yesterday afternoon, he said the aircraft was being inspected by mechanics.
Warwick Fire Chief James McLaughlin said city apparatus responded to what he termed an “Alert 2.” He said the aircraft landed with no injuries and investigators are checking out the aircraft.
