Anna M. Guzeika

Anna M. Guzeika, 94, formerly of Spring Grove Avenue, died Friday, September 1, 2017 at Brentwood Nursing Home. She was the beloved wife of the late Henry A. Guzeika.

Born in Jamesville, VA, she was a daughter of the late Welford H. and Annie (Ward) Chandler. At a time when women were expected to be homemakers, Anna was actively working in a variety of jobs including 18 years of service to the Warwick School Department as their Baker and as a waitress, last working at Peter Pan Pantry. She also volunteered at the Warwick Food Bank, with Warwick Community Action and with Jonas, where she visited shut-ins. Raised Southern Baptist, Anna was a strong and faithful woman. She was kind and silly, easy-going and yet stubborn too. She loved music, cooking and spending time in her garden.

She was the mother of Joan Broom of Warwick, Gwen Ruggiero of Greenwich, CT and of the late Henry W. Guzeika, whose wife Christine lives in Narragansett; “Gramma” to her six grandchildren: Rebecca Porter-Harris, Lloyd Broom, Henry Guzeika, Amanda Lawton, Sean Guzeika and Louis Ruggiero and “Mimi” to her thirteen great-grandchildren: Shelby, Dylan, Tori, Kyle, Faith, Henry, Jackson, Ellie-May, Emma, Bella, Sophie, Nicholas & Alexis and sister of Barbara Gibbs of Texas. She was predeceased her sister Mabel Shockley.

Calling hours will be held on Sunday, September 10 from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. at Carpenter-Jenks Funeral Home & Crematory, 659 East Greenwich Avenue, West Warwick. Her funeral service will be on Monday, September 11 at 10:00 a.m. at Norwood Baptist Church, 48 Budlong Avenue, Warwick. Burial will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
