Barbara Davis Roberts

Barbara Davis Roberts, 94, formerly of Warwick and most recently of South Kingstown, passed away peacefully on April 1, 2017. She was predeceased by her husband, William Martin Roberts; they were married for fifty years.

Barbara was the daughter of the late Gertrude Davis (Kahn) and the Reverend Charles H. Davis, pastor emeritus of the Greenwood Union Church in Wakefield, Mass. She was the sister of the late Phillips C. Davis of Wakefield, Mass., and the twin sister of the late Nancy B. Davis of Saratoga Springs, NY. Barbara moved to Rhode Island in 1957 and worked in the Warwick school system for 20 years as a physical education teacher and a guidance counselor.

Barbara grew up in Wakefield, Mass. She was an accomplished athlete and excelled especially in tennis and field hockey. After graduating from Wakefield High School, she went on to the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, received a master’s degree in Education from Smith College and was certified in guidance and counseling from the University of Rhode Island. Before coming to RI, Barbara taught at Classical High School, Springfield, Mass., and Boston University’s Sargent College of Physical Education. After moving to RI, Barbara taught physical education at the former Lockwood Jr. High School and later was a guidance counselor at the Lockwood and Winman junior high schools. She was a member of the East Greenwich United Methodist Church and the Warwick Retired Teachers Association. Barbara was an avid fan of the Red Sox, Celtics, Bruins and Patriots.

Barbara is survived by her son Tobias M. Roberts and his wife Stephanie of Narragansett, son Charles P. Roberts of North Kingstown, daughter Nancy R. Ransohoff and her husband Kurt of Santa Barbara, CA, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

The family wishes to thank the kind and caring staff at Brightview Commons for all that they did in Barbara’s last few years. Burial will be private.
