It’s safe to say that Hendricken track can be penciled in as Class A champion each spring.

The Hawks rattled off their 40th consecutive class crown on Saturday with an all-around team effort that left their competition in the dust, totaling 159 points, 44 ahead of second-place Central.

Hendricken got first-place finishes from Joe Rivera Santos in the 110 hurdles, Mike Bittner in the triple jump and Evan Storti in the discus, while the 4x800 relay team of Rob Merlino, Harry Antone, Jeff Venter and Jordan Dagrin also took gold in a time of 8:08.1.

The Hawks’ tremendous depth was on display once again, as Ethan Pezzullo placed fifth in the 100, before Russell White took fourth in the 200. Dagrin, Venter and Dan Ruggiero earned third, fourth and sixth, respectively, in the 1500, and Sean Meehan, Jack McMahon and Aidan Tierney placed second, third and fifth in the 3000.

Ethan Famiano finished in second right behind Rivera Santos in the 110 hurdles, and Famiano and Rivera Santos went on to take second and third, respectively, in the 300 hurdles, as well. Freshman Sean Fagan scored in the 110 hurdles, too, with a sixth-place finish.

The Hawks’ 4x100 relay squad of Kwity Paye, Desmond Bernal, White and Pezzullo earned second, while the 4x400 team of Antone, Duwuan Edwards, Famiano and Joey D’Antonio placed fourth.

Bittner finished second in the high jump, with Edwards taking fourth in the same event.

Sophomore William Tuttle earned fifth in the pole vault, while Kahlin Watkins and Rivera Santos finished in third and fourth in the long jump.

Football standouts Xavier Truss and Paye represented well in the shot put with second- and fourth-place finishes.

Max Paolino earned fifth in the discus, and Ryan Morel and Abe Salako finished fourth and fifth in the hammer.

Finally, Hendricken placed three athletes in the javelin, with Cam Leahy (fourth), Alex Mulvey (fifth) and Matt St. Jean (sixth) compiling some more points.

The Hawks will be back in action for the Hendricken Invitational this Saturday. They will then look to capture their second straight state title on June 3 at Brown University.
