Colonel Ann C. Assumpico, Superintendent of the Rhode Island State Police and Director of the Department of Public Safety, advises that members of the Rhode Island State Police Major Crimes Unit, Forensic Services Unit and the State Medical Examiner’s Office have identified the body that was found in the water off Beavertail State Park in Jamestown on Monday, Sept. 4, 2017.

Detectives from the Forensic Services Unit and the Medical Examiner’s Office determined that the body was Patrick P. Carey, age 33, whose last-known address was 21 Elberta St., Warwick, Rhode Island. Mr. Carey was reported missing by a family member to the Warwick Police Department on Aug. 30, 2017.

Mr. Carey’s body was taken to the State Medical Examiner’s Office, where the results of an autopsy are pending. At this time, the cause of death does not appear to be suspicious, and the investigation is ongoing.

This was a joint investigation with the Rhode Island State Police, Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management, and the Jamestown Police Department.
