Book fair benefiting EBC Center includes contests, story telling
The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center (EBCC) will host a Book Fair Fundraiser at Barnes & Noble Bookstore at 1350-B-Bald Hill Road in Warwick today from 2 to 7 p.m., as part of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
The fundraiser will continue for five days after the main event, until Oct. 30, with the opportunity for people to purchase books online as a means of supporting the cause if they are unable to visit the bookstore in person. A minimum of 10 percent of all proceeds will go directly to the EBCC in support of their efforts to stop domestic violence. Those who attend are asked to print out a voucher and bring it with them to the bookstore. Vouchers can be found at www.ebccenter.org/files/bookfairvoucher.jpg.
Today’s event will also have activities ranging from story telling for kids, food sampling, magic demonstrations and a costume contest, all of which are free for those who attend.
Judith Earle, executive director at EBCC, is looking forward to the event, which she feels will be an enjoyable way for people to contribute to a good cause.
“I thought it would be fun for families and kids to come and participate in different activities, in addition to buying books,” she said.
She added the emphasis on the five-day period following the event, encouraging people who were unable to attend to purchase books online, as 10 percent of those proceeds will go to the EBBC as well. Purchases are open to anyone across the country who would like to support the cause, which Earle sees as a major advantage in the overall fundraising efforts. Information about the five-day period from Oct. 25-30, in which book purchases will still benefit the center, can be found at www.barnesandnoble.com/bookfairs and entering the Book Fair ID 10884278 at the checkout section.
