The Sunday, November 4 program at the Cranston Central Library features a Holocaust talk by Michael Bryant for 2018 Baxt Lecture Series: The Holocaust and the Human Rights Revolution. The talk is from 2 to 4 p.m.

Join the Sandra Bornstein Holocaust Education Center (SBHEC) and the Bryant, Professor of History and Legal Studies at Bryant University, will talk on "The Holocaust and the Human Rights Revolution." Bryant is a noted scholar and author regarding Holocaust and Genocide Law. This event is free and open to the public.

He will examine the Holocaust as a catalyst in the enforcement of human rights after World War II. Before 1945, individuals had no rights under international law; after 1945, these same persons enjoyed rights under numerous conventions and treaties. Not only could they pursue civil remedies against governments that had harmed them, but new judicial bodies applying international criminal law arose to hold government actors accountable for their crimes. This revolution in the defense of human rights is conceivable only against the backdrop of the Holocaust and its searing impact on the human conscience.

This lecture series is presented by the Sandra Bornstein Holocaust Education Center.
