Tri-City Elks

Tri-City Elks continue with the "Classic Car Show" each Thursday evening at 5 p.m. Bring your custom collectible car and show it off or just come and enjoy. Motorcycles welcome. There will be music and food for sale. The Tiki Bar will be open for beverages.

Zumba classes have ended for the summer and will resume in September.

Free Community Lunch

There will be a free community lunch and food pantry June 24 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 111 West Shore Road, Warwick. Everyone is invited to participate.

URI Master Gardners

On June 24 and 25, during the eighth biennial Gardening with the Masters tour, 26 URI Master Gardners will share their expertise with visitors across Rhode Island and nearby Connecticut. Rain or shine, these intrepid lovers of all things horticultural will open their properties to the public and be available to answer questions about sustainable practices, plant selection and garden design. Tickets cost $20 for the two days and can be purchased online at web.uri.ed/mastergardner.

Steak Fry and Poker Run

American Legion and the Screamin Eagles is having a steak fry and poker run June 25 at 662 West Shore Road to benefit Shields Scholarship Fund. Registration is from 8:30-10:30 with donuts and coffee. Voices of RI Meeting

The Voices of RI chapter of the Colon Cancer Alliance will hold their next meeting at 7 p.m. June 26, in the small meeting room of the Warwick Public Library, 600 Sandy Lane, Warwick. All are welcome to come learn about the organization and plan for an August 6 walk and other events. It's a great opportunity to share stories and meet other colon cancer survivors and caregivers. Oakland Beach in the 1960s

The upcoming exhibit, “Oakland Beach in the 1960s – Art, Society, Nature” at the Warwick Center for the Arts (WCA), will be on display through June 30. The exhibit will feature original images of Oakland Beach from that era by Carmel Vitullo, the acclaimed Rhode Island photographer, along with other images and items related to Oakland Beach and describing the artistic, social, and environmental context for her work. Gorton High School Monthly Luncheon

The Gorton High School Monthly Luncheon will be held July 12 at Christopher's Landing, One Bay Avenue (Formally Timmy's). Summer Travel Basketball League

Every Wednesday night beginning July 12 through August 16, the Greater Providence YMCAs will run a summer travel basketball league. Games will tip off at 6:30 p.m. and 7:45 pm. This travel league will feature a game on Wednesday nights. Players will be traveling between Kent County, Bayside, Newman and Cranston YMCA. The league is open to boys and girls entering grades 1-8, and all players will be divided into divisions based on the grade they are entering in the fall. Folk and Celtic Concert

Folk and Celtic singers Atwater-Donnelly will perform in concert July 29 at 7 p.m. at Westminster Unitarian Church, 119 Kenyon Ave., East Greenwich. Cost is $15 adults, $5 12 to 18 years old, free under 12. Tickets are available at www.Westminsteruu.org.

Meadowbrook Bingo

Bird Feeder Donations

Wild Birds Unlimited, Warwick, annually conducts a feeder swap event, which generates bird feeders for donations within the community. The feeders are completely refurbished and as a result are perfectly functional. The feeder swap has resulted in more than 50 feeders over the past four years and the feeders have been given to local schools, senior centers and assisted living facilities. If you are interested in obtaining a feeder for a deserving destination, contact Richard Del Sesto at 826-0606 or wbuwarwick@yahoo.com.

Meadowlark Seniors

Meadowlark Seniors, a social club, holds weekly meetings every Thursday at the St. Kevin Parish Hall, 333 Sandy Lane, at 1:30. The meetings are followed by coffee and refreshments. After refreshments, an activity also follows. All seniors are invited to visit and see what the club is all about.

Alzheimer’s Support Group

As a caregiver for an Alzheimer’s patient, you’re all too familiar with the frustration and heartache that come from trying to stir the memory of someone you love. Physical Fitness Training

A local non-profit will bring organized basketball, nutrition education and physical fitness training to 160-200 youth in Warwick. The program will run through Feb. 28, and players only pay a $25 fee for the entire season. They are a registered 501©3 non-profit, and they are currently close to capacity. Moms for Moms/Families First RI helps pregnant women and new mothers deal with an enormous transition by matching them with trained volunteers who are mothers themselves. The program provides emotional and social support and strives to connect new moms to resources within their own communities. Mentors develop a warm, supportive relationship while spending time with the new mom in their homes, accompanying them on outings and attending mom gatherings. The Kentish Guards Fife and Drum Corps rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. at the Kentish Guards Armory on Pierce St. in East Greenwich. Free lessons on playing the fife are provided to men and young men interested in joining the corps.

Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. Domestic Abuse Support Groups

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences. Developmental Screening

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child’s development and offers information about community resources.
