Tri-City Elks

Meat raffle for Rosemary's Wish Kids will be held April 21 from 2-4 p.m. There are four tables full of meats and gifts. Also a 50/50 raffle. Come and have some fun while supporting such a wonderful cause.

Neal and the Vipers with Dave Howard will be performing April 27 at 8:30 p.m. Entrance fee is $6 at the door.

Country Line Dancing Monday evenings from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Cost is $6 per person, and the instructor is Lori Enos. Come on down with your boots and kick up your heals.

Zumba will take place on Tuesday evenings beginning at 6 p.m.  Cost is $6 per person and the instructor is Lorraine Blanchard.

Warwick Rotary

Conimicut Village Spring Fling

Conimicut Village Spring Fling Fundraiser is scheduled for April 14 at 6:30 p.m. at St. Benedict's Parish Hall on Transit Street. The evening includes a cash bar, dinner, music, raffles and silent auctions. Funds from the event cover the cost of the flowers and the U.S. flags that decorate the village from May through September. Tickets are $27 for adults, $10 for children and can be purchased online at www.conimicut.org, at Davies Service Center, at St Benedict's church or by calling 524-8404.

Varnum Armory Museum Tour

There will be a free tour of the Varnum Armory Military Museum April 15, sponsored by the East Greenwich Historic Preservation Society. The tour of this little-known gem of military memorabilia dating back to the Revolutionary War will be led by its new curator, Patrick Donovan. He has refurbished the museum and unearthed many military artifacts that were stored and forgotten. The tour begins at 2 p.m. with light refreshments. The Varnum Armory is located at the intersection of Division and Main Streets, East Greenwich. Come in through the Division Street entrance and proceed downstairs.

Ocean State Toastmasters

Ocean State Toastmasters will hold its next meeting April 17 from 7-9 p.m. at Warwick City Hall, 3275 Post Road. Regular meetings are held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. The club is one of 13,500 in Toastmasters International, a nonprofit, educational organization devoted to the development of public speaking and leadership skills. Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter

The monthly meeting for Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter will be held April 19 at the Pilgrim Senior Center, 27 Pilgrim Parkway at 6:30 p.m. They will be discussing the results of the breakfast to be held on April 14 and finalizing plans for a craft show that will be held on May 12 at Pilgrim. Spring Fundraiser

Warwick Women’s Club Fundraiser

The General Federation of Women’s Clubs, Warwick Women’s Club is hosting an adult comedy night fundraiser by Funny4Fund Comedy Night Fundraisers on Friday, April 27 at the Knights of Columbus Hall, 475 Sandy Lane, Warwick. Armenian Genocide Commemoration

The Armenian Martyrs’ Memorial Committee of Rhode Island will commemorate the 103rd anniversary of the 1915 Armenian Genocide April 29 at 12:45 pm at the Martyrs’ Monument site in North Burial Ground, Branch Avenue, Providence. The three Armenian churches and clergy will perform services in memory of the Holy Martyrs. Chris Bohjalian will be the keynote speaker. His newest book, The Flight Attendant, is on the NY Times best-selling list. Federal, state and local officials will also be in attendance. The public is cordially invited not to miss this important day in memory of the Holy Martyrs and survivors of the Armenian Genocide.

Cranston Senior Guild

Cranston Senior Guild’s next meeting will take place May 2 at 1 p.m. at Tamarisk Assisted Living, 3 Shalom Drive, Warwick. There will be a short meeting, followed by bingo, refreshments and a raffle.  All men and women age 55 years plus are welcome to join. Membership is $12 for the year. Cranston residency is not required.  Plan on coming for a fun afternoon.

The Cranston Senior Guild will hold its installation luncheon June 6 at noon at Mesa Café & Grill, 100 Rolfe Street, Cranston. The luncheon will include your choice of chicken Marsala or baked fish, rolls, chicken escarole soup, salad, pasta, green beans, and carrots. For dessert you have a choice of tiramisu or fresh fruit cup and coffee or tea. The total is $25 (tax and tip are included). A raffle will follow the luncheon. St. Catherine of Siena Anniversary

St. Catherine of Siena Parish in Apponaug is celebrating their 100th anniversary May 6. Walk and Talk at Rocky Point

Walk and Talk at Rocky Point is a free walking group that meets on Tuesday mornings at 9 a.m. and Thursdays evenings at 5 p.m. They meet at the front gate. They walk at a moderate pace on the paved path that is about two miles. Dogs on leashes and children in strollers are welcome. Developmental Screening

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child’s development and offers information about community resources. Moms for Moms

Support a new mother, share your experience and make a new friend. You can make a difference with just one hour a week. Moms for Moms/Families First RI helps pregnant women and new mothers deal with an enormous transition by matching them with trained volunteers who are mothers themselves. The program provides emotional and social support and strives to connect new moms to resources within their own communities. Mentors develop a warm, supportive relationship while spending time with the new mom in their homes, accompanying them on outings and attending mom gatherings. Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. Domestic Abuse Support Groups

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences.
