Tri-City Elks

Meat raffles on Saturdays from 2-4 p.m. There will be four tables loaded with meat and prized. There will also be a 50/50 raffle.  Proceeds will be donated to Rosemary's Wish Kids.

Country line dancing continues from 7-9 p.m. Monday evenings with Lori Enos. Cost is $8 per person. Come kick up your heels and have some fun.

Yoga Classes with Lorraine Blanchard Tuesday nights at 6 p.m. The Vinyasa Yoga flow will embody strength, balance, and flexibility. Please bring your own Yoga mat. Cost is $6 per person.

The Annual Fishing Derby for boys & girls ages 5-12 will be held April 20 at 7 a.m. Stop in after 3 p.m. at the Lodge and sign your kids up. There are two age groups: ages 5-8 and 9-12. A fishing pole will be awarded to one child in each group that

catches the largest fish. Fish weigh in will be at 11 a.m. Burgers, chips and soda will follow.

Meadowlark Seniors

The Meadowlark Seniors, a social club, holds weekly meetings every Thursday at the St. Kevin Parish Hall, 333 Sandy Lane, at 1:30 p.m. The meetings are followed by coffee and refreshments. After refreshments, an activity follows. All seniors are invited to attend a meeting and see what they are all about. Scheduled meetings may be canceled due to inclement weather.

Walk and Talk at Rocky Point

Walk and Talk at Rocky Point is a free walking group that meets on Tuesday mornings at 9 a.m. and Thursdays evenings at 5 p.m. They meet at the front gate. They walk at a moderate pace on the paved path that is about two miles. Dogs on leashes and children in strollers are welcome. Warwick Rotary Meeting

On Thursday, April 4 the Warwick Rotary Club hosts Lia Stuhlsatz, Associate Justice at the Rhode Island Family Court, to speak about having a safe and secure baby court. Paint Night

The Oakland Beach Volunteer Fire Company Women’s Auxiliary is hosting a paint night April 5 at 6 p.m. Tickets are $25 each and are available for purchase at the bar or by contacting Gail Becker at 207-3786, Barbara Napolitano at 524-8013 or Becky Kotch at 829-1713. Purchase tickets early as a limited number of tickets will be sold. They will be painting a beach scene on a 16x20 canvas frame. The instructor for the event is Carla from Art In A Cart. Mary's Way of the Cross

Join St. Benedict's Contemporary Choir "Keeping The Faith" April 5 at 6:30 p.m. at 135 Beach Avenue, Warwick, as they present their version of "Mary's Way of the Cross."  Experience Stations of the Cross through the heart of Jesus' mother with live actors and music and a moving Lenten devotion.

Breakfast & Raffle to Help Homeless Cats and Dogs

Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter will hold its 15th Annual Breakfast & Raffle April 6 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. at the Pilgrim Senior Center, 27 Pilgrim Parkway, Warwick. Enjoy an all-you-can-eat home-cooked breakfast including gently scrambled eggs, french toast, crispy bacon, savory sausage, country home fries, fruit salad, coffee and juice. Support our homeless animals and buy some raffle tickets. Raffle features a large assortment of great prizes. Breakfast tickets are available now and cost $10 each or $3 each for children under 6 years old. Reservations are required. Alienated Grandparents Anonymous

Alienation keeps grandparents and great-grandparents from (or severely limits) their ability to communicate or visit with their grandchildren – often without informing the grandparents of the reasons. AGA offers support and information for those experiencing this devastating trauma. The Rhode Island membership of AGA will have meetings from 1-3 p.m. April 6, May 4 and June 1 at St. Luke's Church, 99 Peirce St. East Greenwich. There will be no meetings in July or August. Ham & Bean Dinner

Slocum Grange, 86 Slocum Road, North Kingstown, will be having a ham and bean dinner at the Grange Hall April 6 at 5:30 p.m. The menu consist of homemade baked beans, ham, cole slaw, beets, brown bread and homemade pies, coffee and tea. Warwick Women’s Club

The General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC) Warwick Women's Club will hold its monthly meeting April 9 at 6:30 p.m. at the Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center in Warwick. Ryan Loiselle, program director of FRIENDS WAY, will give a brief introduction to his organization and what they have to offer for volunteers. FRIENDS WAY is Rhode Island's only bereavement center for children and teens that offers a safe and compassionate environment for emotional healing at no charge to families. The Warwick Women’s Club is a civic/community-oriented club that provides funds and/or goods for local organizations such as the Norwood Boys’ and Girls’ Club, Project Undercover, House of Hope and RI Mentoring. Basket Raffle

Thrive Behavioral Health (formerly The Kent Center) is hosting a Basket Raffle as part of its annual fundraising event. The 12 baskets, valued between $175 and $1,050, are of various themes including gardening, beauty supplies, health & wellness, coffee and wine enthusiasts, art supplies, children's activities, dog lovers, and original art works. Thrive Behavioral Health Job Fair

Thrive Behavioral Health will be holding a job fair April 12 from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at 2756 Post Road in Warwick. They will have hiring managers on site to answer questions and discuss job opportunities; bring your current resume. They are hiring for clinical and non-clinical positions: clinicians, clinical team leader, case managers, direct support professionals, administrative assistants, and per diem drivers. Benefits are available to full-time and part-time staff working at least 17 ½ hours per week.

Conimicut Easter Egg Hunt

The Conimicut Village Association will host its annual Easter Egg Hunt April 13 at Clegg Field on Winter Avenue. The hunt will start at 10:30 sharp. All children 10 and under are welcome to attend and meet the Easter Bunny. Children will be divided into two separate groups (5 and under/6 and above). Remember to bring a basket to collect eggs. Rain date is April 20 at 1 p.m.

Food Bank Benefit Concert

The 17th Annual RI Community Food Bank benefit concert, “A celebration of Christian music with performances from multiple churches,” will be held Palm Sunday, April 14, at 6:30 p.m. at Lakewood Baptist Church, 255 Atlantic Ave., Warwick. Admission is at least one non-perishable food item. A free will offering will also be taken (check payable to RI Community Food Bank). Refreshments and fellowship following the concert.

Easter Musical

Phillips Memorial Baptist Church, 565 Pontiac Avenue, Cranston, will hold their Easter Musical, "The Power of the Cross,” narrated by David Barber and Sally Riley. This moving performance will be presented by Phillips' Chancel Singers, soloists, and orchestra under the direction of Dr. Martha Sobaje on Palm Sunday, April 14, during the 10 a.m. worship service. Toll Gate National Honor Society

Toll Gate High School will hold its National Honor Society installation April 23 at 6 p.m. in the Robert J. Shapiro Cultural Center. Greetings will be presented by Miss Candace Caluori, principal of Toll Gate High School. Teacher of the Year will be announced and Book Awards will be presented. Forty-four juniors will be introduced and inducted into the National Honor Society and 36 seniors will receive their certificates and honor cords. A reception will follow in the cafeteria.

Cranston Senior Guild

Cranston Senior Guild’s next meeting will take place May 1 at 1 p.m. at Tamarisk Assisted Living, 3 Shalom Drive, Warwick. There will be a short meeting, followed by bingo, refreshments and a raffle.  All men and women age 55 years plus are welcome to join. Membership is $12 for the year. Annual Conimicut Spring Fling Fundraiser

Historic Cemetery Ceremony

The Pawtuxet Rangers will participate in a ceremony May 5 at 2 p.m. at Cranston Historic Cemetery #36 on Park Avenue in Cranston. The Rangers, Cranston Historic Cemetery Commission, Sons of the American Revolution and Society of Colonial Wars will be some of the participants. The cemetery has had a refurbishment and the group will recognize four Revolutionary War veterans, one of whom was amongst the first officers on the Continental Navy. There will be a new veterans grave marker unveiled and an interpretive sign.

Greater Warwick Lions Scholarship

The Greater Warwick Lions Club announces its Academic and Community Achievement Award eligibility program. They will be awarding a $1,000 scholarship this year available to Warwick high school seniors residing in Warwick. The Greater Warwick Lions Club is a chartered member of Lions Club International and dedicated to the concept of community service. This award takes into account financial need and academic achievement as well as demonstrated community service of the applicants. Apply for Boys and Girls State 2019

The American Legion Boys State and the American Legion Auxiliary Girls State will take place June 16-21 at St. Andrew's School in Barrington. The course is on the workings of the executive, legislative and judicial branches of government. Students form their own political parties, formulate party platforms and conduct spirited campaigns for public office. All high school juniors are encouraged to apply. Scholarships are available. Expenses are paid for by the American Legion and American Legion Auxiliary.

New Counseling Program Available

If you are experiencing a substance use problem with alcohol or drugs or a substance use problem coupled with a mental health problem such as depression or anxiety, a new program at Thrive Behavioral Health (formerly known as The Kent Center) may be right for you. Thrive is offering an intensive outpatient program for people battling substance use disorders and co-occurring substance use and mental health disorders. Green Airport Military Lounge Seeks Volunteers

The Rhode Island Military Organization (RIMO) Military Lounge at T.F. Green Airport is seeking volunteers to staff the lounge. Open 12 hours every day, the primary goal of the lounge is to provide a welcoming place for military service members, veterans and their families to relax and regroup during their travels. Approaching six years in operation, nearly 15,000 visitors have passed through the lounge doors. Yet, it’s the dedicated volunteers who keep the lounge open, clean, stocked and comfortable while providing a welcome smile and warm greeting to each visitor. Volunteers are asked to work four-shifts and may select their own work schedule but are asked to dedicate a minimum of four hours per month. Also, volunteers enjoy free parking at the airport. A great opportunity to give back to the community and thank our active duty and veterans for their service. All volunteers are required to fill out the RIMO application, acquire a background check, and attend a short training class. New volunteers can begin the process by contacting the RIMO office at 921-4393.

Developmental Screening

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child’s development and offers information about community resources. Moms for Moms

Support a new mother, share your experience and make a new friend. You can make a difference with just one hour a week. Moms for Moms/Families First RI helps pregnant women and new mothers deal with an enormous transition by matching them with trained volunteers who are mothers themselves. The program provides emotional and social support and strives to connect new moms to resources within their own communities. Mentors develop a warm, supportive relationship while spending time with the new mom in their homes, accompanying them on outings and attending mom gatherings. The Kentish Guards Fife and Drum Corps rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. at the Kentish Guards Armory on Pierce St. in East Greenwich. Free lessons on playing the fife are provided to men and young men interested in joining the corps.

Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences.
