Tri-City Elks

Zumba lessons will be held on Tuesday evenings from 6-7 p.m. Cost is $6 per person and the instructor is Lorraine Blanchard. Come burn off some calories while having fun doing it.

Veteran Resource Fair

Operation Stand Down RI is hosting a Veteran Resource Fair at Warwick Mall on Veterans Day, Nov. 11, from 10 a.m.-6 p.m. The resource fair will include veteran service providers including Operation Stand Down’s housing and employment services, the VA flu shot clinic, VA Benefits Assistance, the Rhode Island Office of Veteran Affairs, the Rhode Island DMV, The Rhode Island Department of Labor and Training and other local non-profits. The event is open to all veterans, current military members and their families.

Meat/Seafood Raffle

The Ocean State Parrot Head Club is hosting a meat/seafood raffle at the Cornerstone Pub, 273 Nooseneck Hill Road, Exeter, Nov. 12 from 1-4 p.m. There will also be basket/gift card raffles and a 50/50. Proceeds will be going to four Rhode Island charities: RI Alzheimer’s Association, Finnz Fundz, Operation Stand Down RI and the Providence Ronald McDonald Club. StandWithUs Speaker

StandWithUs presents two special events this Veterans Day weekend as they welcome Major Elliot Chodoff to Rhode Island on Shabbat and Saturday evening, Nov. 12. StandWithUs supports Israel around the world through education, educating people to combat the extremism and anti-Semitism that often distorts the issues. Elliot is a major in the IDF reserves and a political and military analyst specializing in the Middle East conflict and the global war on terrorists. He will be speaking on the changing landscape in the Middle East and its future implications. At 12 noon he will be speaking at a special kiddush luncheon at Chabad of West Bay, 3871 Post Road in Warwick. This event is free of charge, but donations are gratefully accepted (before or after Shabbat). Turkey Supper

The First Congregational Church of Warwick, 715 Oakland Beach Ave., is having their annual turkey supper Nov. 12 from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Menu includes turkey, stuffing, turnip, squash, potato, green beans, rolls beverages and homemade desserts. Cost for adults is $14, children 6-12 is $5. Children 5 and under are free. Come early, this one sells out quick.

Turkey Trot

Warwick Municipal Retirees Association

The Gaspee Seniors will be meeting November 15 at the Buttonwoods Community Center on West Shore Road in Warwick The meeting will have horse racing game. Bring quarters and small bills. The meeting will begin at 1 p.m. AII seniors are welcome.

Ocean State Toastmasters

Trout Unlimited Meeting

The Narragansett Chapter of Trout Unlimited (TU225) will host its November membership meeting Nov. 16 starting at 6:30 p.m. at the Coventry/West Greenwich Elks Lodge, 42 Nooseneck Hill Road, West Greenwich. The primary focus of this meeting will be tying soft hackle wet flies with Michael Brucato, who works in the supply chain for the education system and ties flies for www.myflies.com. Combined with the instructional tying session, Michael, who fishes from time-to-time with Ronald Lasko and whose role model is Sylvester Nemes, will provide a short presentation about using the flies that each member and guest tied. In addition, this meeting will allow members to finalize the draft ballot for the board elections in December, network among other members and guests, tell fishing and fly tying tales and other stories of interest, and discuss plans for spending time outdoors while getting ready for Thanksgiving. Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter

The monthly meeting for Friends of the Warwick Animal Shelter will be held Nov. 17 at The Pilgrim Senior Center, 27 Pilgrim Parkway (behind Benny’s on Warwick Avenue and near Pilgrim High School) at 6:30 p.m. They will be finalizing plans for the craft show on Dec. 3. Interfaith Prayer Service

St. Timothy's Church, Pilgrim Lutheran Church, St. Mark's Episcopcal, and the West Bay Community Jewish Center, invite you to attend a Thanksgiving Interfaith Prayer Service, to be held Nov. 22 at 7pm.  This year, it will be held at St. Timothy's Church, 1799 Warwick Avenue. New England Amputee Association Meeting

The next New England Amputee Association meeting will be held Nov. 30 at 6:30 p.m. at Memorial Hospital Outpatient Rehabilitation, 111 Brewster St., Pawtucket. Special guest is Katarzyna Matlak, a graduate student studying industrial design at the Rhode Island School of Design working on her master’s thesis project concerning prosthetic socket as a physical and emotional tool. This is an opportunity for you to give inputs to our future designer of prosthetic sockets. 20-Week Raffles

St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, 111 West Shore Road, is selling 20-week raffle tickets for $20. Drawings will be held weekly for $25 prize money with additional bonus drawings of $50, $100 and $500. Alzheimer’s Support Group

Physical Fitness Training

A local non-profit will bring organized basketball, nutrition education and physical fitness training to 160-200 youth in Warwick. The program will run through Feb. 28, and players only pay a $25 fee for the entire season. They are a registered 501©3 non profit, and they are currently close to capacity. Fife and Drum Corps

The Kentish Guards Fife and Drum Corps rehearses on Wednesday evenings from 7-9 p.m. at the Kentish Guards Armory on Pierce St. in East Greenwich. Free lessons on playing the fife are provided to men and young men interested in joining the corps.

Evening Counseling Available

Help for Victims of Crime

Are you a victim of physical or sexual assault, domestic violence, untreated childhood abuse, or another crime or traumatic event? Volunteers Needed to Sew

Looking for something to do to help foster kids? Organizers of The Sewing Project to Help Foster Kids are looking for volunteers who want to help sew pillowcase or duffel bags for foster children. Currently their belongings are sometimes put in black trash bags. Foster parent Adriane Grimaldi in Scottsdale, Ariz. started the Sewing Project in February 2008 for children taken from their homes by Child Protective Services (CPS) to make kid-friendly bags for carrying their belongings instead of trash bags. To date, people have made 6,700 pillowcase bags for foster kids Pillowcase bags are delivered to CPS to use instead of trash bags. The Sewing Project has opened a new Rhode Island Chapter working with the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) and is in need of volunteers to sew. Cornerstone Church

Domestic Abuse Support Groups

The Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center is a non-profit agency providing services to victims of domestic abuse and sexual assault. The agency offers morning and evening support groups for adults dealing with current or past domestic abuse Groups provide a safe place to talk with others who have shared similar experiences. Developmental Screening

The Child Outreach Department of the Warwick Public Schools, in cooperation with the Volunteers of Warwick schools (VOWS), conducts regular preschool screening clinics. All Warwick preschool children between the ages of 3 and 5 are offered the Early Screening Inventory-Revised (ESI-R). This is a free service provided by the Warwick Public Schools. Participation in a Developmental Screening is a long established program of the Warwick School Department that provides families with information about their child’s development and offers information about community resources.
