Pilgrim Senior Center Events

The Pilgrim Senior Enrichment Center, located at 27 Pilgrim Parkway, offers educational, nutritional and recreational programs to folks 55 years of age and older. The center is open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

Cribbage League: This new group is looking for players. They meet every Friday at 1 p.m.

Meditation Program: Come to this very relaxed program and learn about the health and wellness benefits that can be gained from this age old practice of meditation. This program is appropriate for those with an established practice as well those new to meditation. You will have the opportunity to learn several different ways to meditate, look at ways of integrating mindfulness into daily life, and leave feeling relaxed and renewed. Please wear comfortable clothing. Bring a yoga mat or cushion to sit on. It is not necessary to come to the floor.Your practice can be in a chair. Linda Morse has been teaching yoga and meditation for over 15 years. Her relaxed and humorous approach creates a safe and enjoyable setting. Ongoing Classes are Wednesdays (except the last week of each month) 11 a.m., $3 per class.

CPR Class at Buttonwoods Community Center: Did you know most SCAs (sudden cardiac arrests) occur at home? Are you interested in learning CPR? Call Pat Seltzer, RN at 468-4077 to register for this or any upcoming class, Friday, June 7, 1-5 p.m.

Veterans Assistance Program: If you are a U.S. veteran, you may be eligible for some benefits. Ron Plante from the Veterans Administration will be here, and if you would like to meet with him call Kathleen at 468-4084 for an appointment. June 19, 9-11:30 a.m.

Zumba Gold: Have some fun with exercise and join the party. Zumba is a Latin-inspired, dance fitness class that incorporates international and Latin music with freeing, stress-relieving movements. It is great for the mind, body and soul; any age or fitness level is welcome. This class is held Tuesday mornings at 8:50 a.m. and the fee is $3 per class.

Zumba/Toning: This is a Zumba class using weights for toning and is held on Mondays at 6 p.m. and the fee is $45 for a 10-week session. You can register and pre-pay at the welcome desk. For more information call Holly at 468-4074.

Ceramics 12:30-3 p.m. Are you interested in trying something new? We have an instructor ready to guide you through a project or to just be there ready to help. This group meets Tuesdays at 12:30-3pm, $4 per class. No sign-up necessary.

Warwick Historical Society

The Warwick Historical Society meets weekly at the John Waterman Arnold House on Roger Williams Circle Wednesdays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and every second Saturday of the month at 11 a.m-2 p.m. All are welcome and urged to become member and volunteer. Visit www.warwickhistoricalsocietyonline.

Warwick Women’s Club

Food Pantry

The food pantry of Woodbury Union Church, Presbyterian on the corner of Beach Ave. and West Shore Road in Conimicut Village will be open Thursday, May 30 from 6:30-8 p.,. Limited food items will be given out to those in need of assistance. Please use the office entrance on Carlisle St. and bring a bag if possible.

One Act Play Festival

Submissions are currently being accepted for the Artists’ Exchange 8th annual One Act Play Festival. For consideration, send submissions of one-act plays of all genres to Artists’ Exchange One Acts, 50 Rolfe Square, Cranston, RI 02910 or info@artists-exchange.org (include name and title of play in subject line of email). The deadline for consideration for the 2013 festival is May 31. Be sure to include a cover page with your name, contact information (phone and email) and synopsis. Selections will be announced on the Artists’ Exchange website by July 1. The festival will take place July 12 through Aug. 4 at Theatre 82 in Cranston.

Bake Sale

The East Greenwich Animal Protection League will be at the Warwick Mall Community Booth for a bake sale on June 1 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Baked goods, homemade dog and cat items and many more wonderful items will be for sale. They will also have pictures of the cats and dogs that are available for adoption as well as information about the league. Dropoff of baked goods will be May 31 from 10 a.m.-7 p.m. at 60 Middle Road, East Greenwich, or June 1 after 10 a.m. at the Community Booth. EGAPL is a non-profit and all volunteer league. All proceeds will be used for the animals in their care.

Yard & Clothing Sale

There will be a yard and clothing sale from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel, Spruce St., Providence. Space rental is available for $12. Call Donna at 952-5511 of for Spanish Maritza at 499-0400.


There will be a bingo June 1 at St. Kevin’s Church hall, 333 Sandy Lane. Doors open at 5 p.m., bingo starts at 6. Fun, prizes and refreshments.

Rocky Hill School Reunion

Rocky Hill School will hold its annual Alumni Reunion June 1. This year’s celebration honors reunion classes ending in 3 and 8. All alumni, friends and faculty (present and past) are invited to attend. Riding the Tide

The Buckeye Brook Coalition is going to be doing something a little different this year for its Riding the Tide paddle adventure. You are invited to participate in a paddle to celebrate R.I. Rivers Month June 1 at 7:30 a.m. The trip will involve a bit more paddling experience. It will involve a trip mostly in upper Narragansett Bay, not too far from shore. The trip will take 2½ to three hours. They will explore the Conimicut salt marsh and the shoreline from Conimicut Point to Rocky Point. Pre-registration is required. You must have experience in paddling on the open bay and be in good physical condition for this excursion. Participants must have their own vessel. Life jackets are required. Children’s Chorus Auditions

The Rhode Island Children’s Chorus, a music education and performance ensemble for children, will hold auditions for new members for the fall 2013 season Saturday, June 1 from 10 a.m.-12 noon at the RI Philharmonic Carter Center, 667 Waterman Ave., East Providence, and 2-4 p.m. at St. Luke’s Church,  99 Peirce St., East Greenwich. Auditions will also be held at the Carter Center in East Providence on Tuesday, June 11, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. and in East Greenwich at St. Luke’s Church on Thursday, June 6, from 6:30-7:30 p.m. Boys and girls ages 7-16 years are welcome. Tri-City Elks

Tri-City Lodge #14, 1915 West Shore Road, Warwick, will host Dave Kane, star of the Father Misgivings Comedy Show, to lead the audience through a maze of laugh-filled interactive comedy, quizzes, contests, prizes and surprises on June 2. Plant Sale

The GFWC Warwick Women’s Club will hold its annual plant sale June 2 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Elizabeth Buffum Chace Center, West Shore Road, Warwick.  All proceeds will go to local charities. All are welcome. 

Daughters of Isabella

St. Benedict Circle #423 Daughters of Isabella will be celebrating their 85th anniversary June 2. Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. at St. Benedict Church, 134 Beach Ave., followed by a reception and dinner at 12:30 in the afternoon at Timmy’s Restaurant and Landing, One Bay Ave., Warwick. Free Concert

A free concert will be presented June 2 at 7 p.m. at Asbury United Methodist Church by the youth choirs of Tucker First United Methodist Church of Tucker, Ga., featuring choral and instrumental music. Memorial Concert

St. Catherine’s Church of Warwick will host a memorial concert in honor of Newtown, Conn. and Boston Marathon victims. St. Catherine’s music director, John Norigian, will lead voices and musicians from the parish and the community in a concert of classical and sacred music at 2:30 p.m. on June 2 at St. Catherine’s, 3252 Post Road, Warwick. Proceeds from free-will offerings will be used for non-violence workshops and training in local communities, presented by the University of Rhode Island Center for Non-violence and Peace Studies.
