Candis Kowalik, a three-time all-around state champion during her time at Warwick Vets, displayed her state champion prowess at the recent Division III NCGA Championships while competing for SUNY Brockport.
The team finished their season on Friday, March 31, with the team competition and Saturday, April 1, with the Individual championships at the University of Wisconsin-Stout.
On Friday, the team finished third overall with a score of 186.800. Kowalik placed fourth on the floor, 25th on the vault and seventh on the beam.
On Saturday, Kowalik shined in the individual events. Kowalik won the individual beam with a score of 9.600, thus making her the national champion and a First-Team All-American. Kowalik won as a freshman last year and repeated this year as a sophomore. Kowalik competed on the vault and on the floor, as well. On the vault, Kowalik placed eighth with the same score she took in the beam of 9.600. This performance earned her a Second-Team All-American honor. On the floor, Kowalik earned one of the two best finishes for Brockport, finishing seventh with a score of 9.650. This made her one of five gymnasts that earned a Second-Team All-American honor.
