Caroline Taylor headed to World Irish Dance Championships Caroline Taylor, of Warwick, will compete in the 49th World Irish Dance Championships (World's) in April. Taylor is a sophomore at LaSalle Academy and a student of the The Goulding School of Irish Dance.
Taylor qualified for the world competition this fall at the New
England Regional Championships in Hartford, Connecticut. She is internationally ranked in the top percent of her age group. She has been dancing since the age of five as a student at the Goulding School of Irish Dance in Cranston, established by Deirdre Goulding Blomberg, a champion Irish Dancer, teacher and adjudicator and former Riverdance cast member.
This international competition will bring thousands of
competitively-ranked dancers from across the globe to dance in
Greensboro, North Carolina. The event is hosted by An Coimisiun le Rinci Gaelacha (the Irish Dancing Commission), based in Dublin, Ireland, which is the largest and longest standing governing body of Irish Dance in the world.
In preparation for competition, Taylor attends dance class five days per week and is usually practicing by 5:45 a.m. before heading to school. In addition to her solo competition, Taylor is also expected to compete in team dancing and choreography. Her choreography team is comprised of 16 members, including Rhode Islanders Madeline Klipfel of Providence, Madeline Mumford of Scituate, Lauren Tetreault of Cranston and Emily Wright of Smithfield.
When Taylor and her teammates aren't preparing for international competitions, they love to share their passion for Irish Dance with the younger dancers in the school and with their community.
Taylor is an honors student at LaSalle. When not dancing or studying, she enjoys training and fundraising the Pan Mass Challenge Teen bike ride, playing tennis and lacrosse for LaSalle, volunteering for Best Buddies and skiing with family and friends.
