Teachers and educational support professionals teamed up to stage a birthday celebration at Warwick Mall for one of the nation’s most beloved children’s authors, Dr. Seuss. National Education Association Rhode Island marked the day with a read-a-thon Saturday at Warwick Mall. Twenty years ago, the National Education Association (NEA) launched Read Across America on Dr. Seuss’s birthday – March 2 – to acknowledge the contribution the famous author made to the education of countless young readers and to emphasize the importance of reading to success in school. Since the first celebration in 1998, the event has become a national tradition that annually attracts young and old in communities across the nation. (Warwick Beacon photos)
