The CCRI Lady Knights softball team hosted the Lynx of New Hampshire Technical Institute from Concord, NH for a doubleheader at Winslow Park on Tuesday.  The Lady Knights defeated the Lynx 8-0 in five innings and 3-2 in seven innings to extend their winning streak to eight games in a row. With the two victories the Lady Knights improve to 10-5 for the season.

Game 1: CCRI- 8 NHTI- 0

In the circle for the Lady Knights in the first game of the doubleheader was Tri-Captain Hannah Caliri (Pawtucket, RI) and she was simply superb over five shutout innings. Caliri allowed just one hit, walked four batters and struck out nine New Hampshire Tech batters. She picks up her sixth victory of the year. Not only was Hannah pitching well but she also helped her own cause at the plate going 3-for-3 with a double, an RBI, two runs scored and a stolen base.

The Lady Knights got on the scoreboard in the first inning as freshman Mackenzie Doyle (Glocester, RI) worked a walk, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a fielder’s choice from Alexis LeBelle (Warwick, RI). CCRI scored two more runs in the third inning as Tri-Captains Sam Muller (North Stonington, CT) and Hannah Caliri both singled and scored on a single from Mackenzie Doyle making the score 3-0. The Lady Knights erupted for five runs without an out in the bottom of the fifth inning to win by the final count of 8-0 by the mercy rule.

Leading the way offensively for the Lady Knights was Mackenzie Doyle with two hits, a walk, a run scored, three RBIs and two stolen bases. Doyle was helped by Sam Muller who had two hits, an RBI and two runs scored. Also helping CCRI was freshman Alexis LeBelle with a hit two RBIs and a run scored. Freshman Raevyn Watson (East Providence RI) reached twice via walks scored a run and stole a base and Tri-Captain Maddie McDonald (East Providence, RI) reached twice via walk.

  Game 2: CCRI- 3 NHTI- 2

In the circle for the Lady Knights in the second game getting the start was freshman Dayna Jackvony (Cumberland, RI). Jackvony pitched two innings while giving up two runs. Dayna left the game with the lead but only pitched town innings so did not factor into the decision. Jackvony was relieved by Hannah Caliri who closed the door on the scoring for the Lynx holding them scoreless for the final five innings. Caliri threw five shutout innings allowing just two hits and four walks while striking out seven Lynx batters to earn her sixth victory of the year against just three losses.

New Hampshire Tech got onto the scoreboard first in the second game scoring in the first inning on a single an error and a base hit to take a 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the first the Lady Knights answered as Mackenzie Doyle reached on a walk followed by an RBI double from Victoria Passaretti (East Greenwich, RI) to tie the game 1-1 before Alexis LeBelle launched a 2-run shot through a stiff wind at Winslow Park to give CCRI a 3-1 lead.  New Hampshire Tech would add another in the top of the second after back to back doubles and an RBI single. However the Lady Knights would escape any further damage as third baseman Alexis LeBelle would use her glove to start a 5-3 double play to end the inning with the score CCRI- 3 NHTI- 2. Caliri would hold NHTI scoreless over the final five frames to help CCRI secure the hard fought 3-2 victory over The Lynx of NHTI.

Leading the way for the Lady Knights offensively was LeBelle who had one hit, the game-winning 2-run home run, with 2 RBIs and a run scored. LeBelle was helped by Victoria Passaretti with two hits including an RBI double and a run scored. Mackenzie Doyle helped CCRI with two hits, a walk and a run scored.  Rounding out the Lady Knights offensive leaders was Tri-Captain Maddie McDonald with two hits and a walk and Hannah Northup (Warwick, RI) added a hit.

The Lady Knights next games will be this Thursday and Friday when they host the Saints of Mercyhurst Northeast for a three game series at Winslow Park in Warwick. On Thursday the 18th they will meet for a doubleheader starting at 2pm and the third game will be on Good Friday the 19th at 10 a.m.
