Bob Flanders to address Citizens Finance Committee

The Warwick Financial Crisis Committee will be hosting another meeting on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at the Warwick Public Library to continue its discussions on the fiscal issues facing the city.

This particular event will be highlighted by a question and answer portion featuring former Rhode Island Supreme Court Associate Justice and 2018 U.S. Republican Senate nominee Robert Flanders, who is also widely known for his work as the court-appointed receiver during the bankruptcy proceedings underwent by Central Falls in 2011.

“Judge Flanders has graciously accepted our invitation to come and speak on the subject matter of the Rhode Island Fiscal Stability Act and the future challenges of the city of Warwick,” said resident financial watchdog and active Financial Crisis Committee contributor Rob Cote in a statement.

The Financial Crisis Committee formed earlier this year due to citizen concerns regarding rising property taxes and the overall fiscal health of the city. The last meeting held in late May presented criticisms of the budget that was originally presented by Mayor Joseph Solomon and recently passed by the Warwick City Council with only a few amendments made to those numbers.

Solomon, meanwhile, has consistently downplayed fears regarding the possibility of Warwick heading towards bankruptcy, saying at a recent event that “things are getting much better,” and that “we’re not sinking, as a matter of fact, we’re rising.”

The meeting is free and open to all members of the general public.
