Rhode Island’s Coast Guard Auxiliary’s North Star Flotilla is offering a safe boating class starting Feb. 24.
This class meets the requirement for the State of RI Boating Certificate that is required for Power Boat operators born after June 1986, or any PWC operators. It is a must for new boaters or for those looking to improve their boating skills.
Attendees will learn the rules of the road, knots, federal regulations, electronic and aids to navigation, plotters and GPS. In addition, there will be classes on boat-handling, docking, how to tie it up correctly, rough water maneuvering, basic navigation and lots more.
The class is taught by Coast Guard Auxiliary volunteers who have decades of sale boating experience.
Class meets Mondays and Thursdays at the East Greenwich Community Room 176 1st Ave East Greenwich RI. The six-week class meets from 6 to 9:30 p.m. and costs $90 per person additional family members sharing material can attend for $65.
An additional Navigation Class for advanced boaters is also available for a cost of $200 per person. For more information email Roz@butziger.com or register at www.northstarflotilla.com.
