BOAT LARCENIES

On April 15 at approximately 2:18 p.m., Officer Albert Marano was dispatched to the Prime Marina at 3 Division Street for a report of a larceny from a boat.

At the scene the officer met with the reporting party, who provided the officer with an account of the incident. He stated that he left his boat around 7:30 p.m. on the 14th in good condition. When he returned the next day at around 1:30 p.m. he noticed his boat, which he considers his second home, had been broken into and ransacked. He reported the incident to the marina and they reviewed security camera footage.

The footage showed three males leaving McKinley’s bar at 11:11 p.m. They then walked through the parking lot and down a ramp where they then broke into the boat. The footage shows that the men hid behind the boats until approximately 11:20 p.m. They then left the boat and walked to the parking lot around 11:25 p.m.

The boat owner stated that he was missing three bottles of craft rum and assorted food items that he valued at about $200. He stated that he does wish to press charges and he told the officer he lost a sense of security as a result of the incident. The report was forwarded to detectives for follow up.

Officer Robert Canis-Langlais was dispatched to Quarry Road for a report of a theft. Upon arrival he met with a complainant who stated that he responded to his boat stored in his driveway that morning and found that it had been broken into.

Missing from the boat were two radios, a satellite television, fishing poles, several lifejackets, tools and chairs. The estimated value of the missing items is $2,550. There were no signs of forced entry to the boat as it was unlocked. There are currently no suspects or witnesses.

RECKLESS DRIVING

At approximately 5:10 p.m. on April 17, Officer Derek Mourato was traveling west on Centerville Road when he observed a car traveling east that was swerving in and out of its lane of travel. According to the report, the car swerved close to the sidewalk and then back to the centerline while traveling below the speed limit. The driver was also observed not wearing a seat belt.

Officer Mourato turned and followed the vehicle, and a traffic stop attempt was made in the area of Hardig Road, however the driver then continued on without stopping and pulled away at a high rate of speed. Upon realizing that the vehicle was not going to stop, Officer Mourato noted that the vehicle was traveling at about 60 miles per hour in a 25 mile per hour zone, and terminated the stop as he felt the situation was unsafe.

Officer Mourato then pulled over and conducted a cross agency vehicle check of the suspect vehicle. The inquiry listed a recent operator of the suspected vehicle as Brian Roy, 45, of 188 Wood Avenue Apt. 3 in Woonsocket. Photos produced during the search matched the description of the suspect that the officer observed. The check also revealed that Roy had a suspended license.

Mourato then responded back to police headquarters where a warrant was drawn for Roy’s arrest. The officer was advised by the State Police a short time later that they located the vehicle unoccupied in Manville. Later, a complainant responded to the Woonsocket Police Department to file a stolen vehicle report for the suspect car. She told officers that she had received a call from Roy who advised he had been in a pursuit with the Warwick Police and that he had ditched the vehicle.

Woonsocket and State Police then conducted a canine search from the vehicle, tracking a scent for approximately two miles without success. Woonsocket Police later notified Officer Mourato they had gotten a hold of Roy by phone, who stated that he would turn himself in the next morning with his lawyer.

On April 18 Roy turned himself in to the Warwick Police Department. He provided a written statement in which he reportedly admitted that he panicked during the incident because he thought he had outstanding warrants and he decided to flee. He reportedly also admitted to speeding and abandoning the car.

Roy was charged with reckless driving/drag racing/eluding police second offense and driving on a suspended licenses third offense. He was transported to the Third District Court to be arraigned.

STOLEN LAPTOP

Officer Tammy Mello was dispatched to a Cedar Pond Drive residence on March 19 around 11:13 a.m. in reference to a stolen laptop. At the scene she spoke with the reporting party, who said he was having difficulty with his apartment key the day before, and left his jacket and computer bag in front of his door while he made a visit to the rental office. When he returned, he found that his jacket and computer bag were gone. The man estimated the total value of the missing items to be around $1,000. A report was taken and there are currently no suspects.

STOLEN PURSE

On March 19 at approximately 1:16. Officer Tammy Mellow was traveling through the Centerville Road YMCA parking lot on routine patrol when she was flagged down by a woman in the lot. The woman advised the officer that her front passenger window was broken and that her black leather purse and MacBook were taken from the front seat. No money or credit cards were taken as the woman had taken out a wallet prior to leaving the car. There are currently no suspects or witnesses. SHOPLIFTING

At approximately 2 p.m. on April 19, Officer Randy Bell was dispatched to the Bald Hill Road Target for a report of a shoplifting. At the store the officer received a written statement from store security indicating that on April 17 at approximately 6:15 p.m. a male suspect was seen passing all points of sale while concealing two Hoover robot vacuum cleaners valued at a total of about $1,000. He then exited the store out of the mall exit and was seen running out of the door and left in a gray BMW with a dent on the front passenger side bumper.

The suspect is described as in his late 40s or early 50s, balding and wearing a dark colored jacket and dark pants. Photographs of the suspect, suspect vehicle and a copy of the surveillance video were provided by the store for possible suspect identification.
